Okay...
..so thanks to some PM ding-dong with Tom (aka shinobi) I finally made up my mind; for my "Restore-that-vintage-Brunswick" reality show, I just purchased a Z-shaft for this sad piece of a cue, (pix of butt & joint below).

Although I didn't actually buy the shaft (but coerced my dear buddy James to give me one of his Z's), I now need someone to install a Uni-Loc joint on this butt. Hence, anyone who can do this (or even knows of someone), give me a PM holler.

And please don't discriminate us who like scruffy old hardware.

(btw, if anyone can also pinpoint the cue's age, I'll make sure to give you a part of the show)

Peer,

It may look like a vintage Brunswick, but it's actually a Dufferin from Canada made for Brunswick, probably circa 1970's or so. It's a take off of the Dufferin snooker cues. So, you can do whatever you want to it without fear.

Well, as long as it says it's a Brunswick, I rather believe the cue's tag than you.

joint pin

Far as I know, Dufferin was the only company that made that style joint pin. Lots of cue makers and manufacturers had parts/cues made for them. They still do. For the record, my money is on Tate.

Yes, it's a Brunswick labeled cue, made by Dufferin (for Brunswick) in the 1970's. It's not a collectible antique (sorry). A lot of people confuse these because Brunswick had a number of these retro-looking designs back then.

I'm trying to put together more information for collectors of old Brunswicks Here's what the old cues really looked like:

I recently checked the VIN number on my Porsche and found that it wasn't manufactured in Germany, but in Finland. So following your reasoning, it can't be a Porsche, and therefore I "can do whatever I want to it without fear." Cool.

Neither is my Porsche.

OK, since you would like to put it that way, the cue you have is like a 1976 Chevette, but you seem to think it's a Corvette. It's worth about $75 to $100.

It's funny how you, Tate, insist on putting words in my mouth, ascribing things that's not true. For a change, try to read what I initially wrote about this cue, as I called it a "sad piece of a cue", etc.

However, since most everything depends on the shaft & joint how well a cue plays, I've decided to install a Uni-Loc joint and a Z-shaft on this shitty piece.

But obviously you don't understand that it's for laughs that I wanna put together a cue that looks really old & ratty ("scruffy old hardware") but yet plays like champ. Hence this silly poll.

Again I'm reminded that I now live in the US, and therefore should try to conform to its adult & dull people. Mea culpa.

Peer,

You asked for information, then soundly rejected it. You had no idea the year or model of your "sad" treasure, and in fact, disputed the information when it was handed to you. Most people appreciate the knowledge we cue collectors offer WHEN ASKED.

We collectors have many sad treasures. Your "funny" project of putting a big shiny set of chrome wheels on your Chevette may seem like a good thing to you, , but if you really don't want to KNOW, just don't ask. It has nothing to do with the U.S. or us dull Americans. Thank goodness a decent, vintage collectible is not in your hands. There are many Dufferin's you can waste your time and money on and nobody will care.

Sorry for getting back on topic but you might take it to Prewitt. He'll prolly throw in some DYNO rings and you'll be into it for somewhat less than what you peeled for your PORSCHE.

Let us know how it hits upon completion.

Tate...
..I understand that sarcasm is often badly conveyed over the internet, so it's always unfortunate when nice & helpful fellows (like yourself) get trapped in this whimsical humor. I'm sorry.

I can tell you that the initial buildup to this was last week when I showed Bob Jewett & co my "treasured" Brunswick -- it prompted a slew of politically incorrect jokes (that I can't repeat on this forum... without upsetting the American Foundation for the Blind ;^)

Love, peace & understanding,

FYI - I checked online, and so far, no one has made the Atlantic
a one way street.

Tate is very knowledgeable, but he's not a cuemaker.
I am.
If you insist on only changing the pin and shaft, you will
have a cue that hits like a piece of Euro-trash.

I have converted many a Dufferin, and they have the potential
to play great.

A full conversion could retain the 'looks' and Brunswick badging
of the cue, and give a great player as a bonus.

Most any cue repair guy, certainly any cuemaker could do the job.

Thanks for the reference, but after emailing & talking to Ryan Theewen, I decided to let him do the job -- he seems like a very skilled and trustworthy person, so I just shipped him the cue.

Sure, I'll do so... (just to let this proteanism continue ;^)

I REALLY like the way RAT's stuff plays.

I don't think you'll be satisfied cause his pricing is WAY too reasonable.

ENJOY and keep us posted:)... hit em straight.
