Linda Carter - The QUEEN!

Just had to shout that my hubby, Mike Zimmerman won the 8 ball tournament. Glenn Atwell 2nd, James Davee 3rd, Pat Shumacher 4th, Ivan Doty and Tim Tweedell in 5th/6th. Stan Tourangeau and ? in 7th/8th.

Mike went through undefeated. Races were to 6 and 5. $1200 added.

I won my first match hill-hill, then lost to an A player hill-hill when I played a really tough intricate layout, got to the last ball before the 8 where there was only an inch to spare for position, made the back cut and scratched off the 7. I ran every rack I shot in, (except one), lol, and except for 2 misses on relatively easy 8's and that scratch. I did all the heavy lifting in that match and he got clean up. When I missed on the first 8, it would have been 5-2 me. Oh well, I did win the blind draw mixed doubles tournament on Sunday. :D

Mike broke against James Davee and made 6 balls on the break (4 solids and 2 stripes) and the cueball was stuck to the end rail against another ball in a cluster, so he had no shot. He was able to play a fantastic safe (he couldn't just jack up and draw it back, as it would have scattered the cluster, probably leaving a shot) and got BIH to run out. He played hard and I'm proud of him. I am posting some pics from the tournament.

Shown L-R: Glenn Atwell, James Davee, Mike Zimmerman (showing off his sponsor's logo, Dave Jones Cues, and his belly!) and Mike Jensen, Tournament Director.

Stanley close up. I was using digital zoom from far away with no flash or tripod, so that is why they are blurry, but at least you get the idea.

Glad you didn't get me in there.....showing me pull my hair out:mad:

You played well and so did UWPoolGod, BTW, how did he end up?

 What a lineup! Nobody has to like it going into the great NW. :)

I'm just thankful those guys don't put a team together and rob the BCA tournament.

Hi Micah,

I wish I had gotten a picture of you. You are so cute! I'm not sure how Todd did. He did do really well. He might have taken 5th or 7th. Maybe he can come up here and tell us. I know I got nervous in my matches, thinking he was going to come on here and post. So every time I had to shoot towards him, I was NERVOUS! :p

6 balls? Good lord!

Were these barboxes? If so, no wonder. I've heard they don't require any skill. They are good for building one's ego, though. Funny that Mike keeps winning all the barbox tourneys tho.

If there was no skill involved, you'd think he'd get beat more often...:D

Thank you for your nice comment (considering I looked like I just woke up...all day), and I am glad to meet you. Let me know if your daughter and her new beau don't work out, okay ;) ;)

Maybe I'll do better in Reno. I do know one thing..never again will I go out in two, never.

Yes, they were 8 foot bar boxes. It is funny that some people denigrate bar box pool, and Mike used to be one of them. However, he has come to prefer 8 ball over 9 ball and bar boxes just take different skills, foremost being the ability to maneuver whitey in tight spaces. ;)

Good luck in Reno! I admire your determination. I wish I could say the same thing, but I have the feeling it will happen to me again. :o

Ken Dodd - blurred, sorry! :o

Kenny Dodd & I go back to the 60's when he was Artesia Kenny. He was the first one of the young guys to "go on the road' and robbed us at Verne Peterson's Billiard Palace in Bellflower when he got back. I see in the results of the pool mag he still hits them pretty good. John Henderson

Kenny Dodd what a flash from the past. I used to play a lot of pool with him 25 or so years ago. What a classic setup he has. Right out of the book. A super nice guy too. I'm glad to see he is still in trenches. The last time I played him he had dark brown hair....LOL

Linda, thanks for posting that picture of Kenny and Pat Schumacher. I haven't seen those two in many years...both gentleman pool players.

The last time I saw Pat, he was giving John Campbell the 7 on a barbox in the Halftime Tavern in Portland. John stood no chance. He wanted to play Pat on a 9 footer, and Pat was more than happy to accommodate. John tended to woof at the wrong people. He came down to City Lights in Tacoma for the tournament one time and was watching me play, and started woofing at me. I was getting in stroke for the tournament and turned him down. I ended up playing him in the tourney, and he got a few lucky racks on me to go up 3-0, and I reeled him back in to win 7-4. John tended to over spin the cue ball. I see on www.onthebreaknews.com that he still plays. How's he hitting them? Has he improved? He was in his 30's back when I played him.
