Results from Danny K's Rotation Continuous Tourney

Hey can you give us all the rules in writing please?

I don't think call pocket would be necessary or an improvement.

The rules are simple, of course the game is not simple.

Here are the rules.

Players lag for the break.

All fifteen balls are racked with the one in front and eight in the center, with the rest of the balls racked like eight ball. The reason for this is to spread the balls out randomly, instead of solids together, etc.

An offensive break requires that the one ball is struck first and 4 ball driven to a rail. Safety breaks are not allowed.

On the break if the shooter makes a ball he has cbih anywhere on the table. If nothing is made opponent has cbih.

Thereafter each player comes to the table with cbih.

Each ball counts one point, and a preset number of points is played to, like 100 or 125.

If the shooter fouls or scratches, incoming player may make him shoot again.

Safeties are not allowed. If the referee determines a safety has been played he may penalize the player 15 points and allow opponent to rebreak the balls.

When Jose Parica ran 49 balls he slopped in at least one ball. This tarnishes the run itself, in a way. I think it would be good either way.

I hope that gives you a summary of the rules.

I think the pro's are right (i can't believe i said that) call pocket will cut down on the luck factor. This is one of the reasons you invented the game I believe.

I know you had put the rules out in one of the first threads about this game, but I can't find it.

I would love to see this form of rotation catch on. I had at least 1 table of partner rotation going 12 hours a day 7 days a week in my room. It paid ALL my overhead. Johnnyt

This game is the best thing to come along since Viagra came out. I just wish they would make the pills a little smaller. One got stuck in my throat the other night and I had a stiff neck for 4 hours. Thanks for your input on the game. I might try to host another tournament, like I said before at Hard Times or Hollywood Billiards, if the owners are willing.

This way the added money can be shared and I will have the ability to tap into the players that play in their rooms. Hopefuly they might be amenable to hosting an event.

Jay or Danny-- The game sounds great, and simple enough. I gather each player shoots in rotation until he misses a ball. Then the opponent starts with BIH.

What are the special circumstances after the break? Do balls made count, or are they spotted? Do all balls pocketed on any legal shot count, or do the other balls spot? Can the non-breaking opponent pass the shot back to the breaker if he wants?

One minor problem in scoring: most rooms no longer have overhead beads, nor rail counters. I suppose contestants must keep score on paper and pencil.

Thanks~ Doc

I believe that all balls made on the break count, and any ball made on a good hit counts as well. Let's say you get hooked during your turn and have to kick at a ball. If you kick and hit the correct ball, anything that goes counts. Just like regular Rotation. And I think this is the way it should be. Remember you're only getting ONE point for each ball made. So if you luck in the fifteen ball, it is no better than making the one ball.

Yeah I forgot your only getting a point a ball. In that case call shot doesn't matter much. Johnnyt

Missed A Good One

Danny, sorry I missed it- I flew out thursday to San Jose to do a tax return over the weekend. I missed a good tournament. I've played it on Monday nights and like it. 'Got to go' is always more fun than my weak safes anyway.

Nice to hear that some of the locals did well. But then, some of the locals can play.

Best wishes/continued success

3railkick/Bill

ps: still working on that tax return at this time of morning

Stiff?

I don't think that's the part of you that's supposed to get stiff, Johnny.

Great point Jay. It is true that all balls count on the break, so why not count balls that fall in while shooting at another ball?

It keeps the run alive when maybe it shouldn't, but it certainly does add some excitement to the game.

Parica slopped in more than one against Tang Hoa, and it was funny watching Tang's reactions. Every time Jose would have to kick at a ball Tang would walk to the other side of the room and cover his eyes.

The best thing we use though, is Roger Tafoya's scorekeeper's with large numbers on them. These are really the best and I plan to purchase some.
Danny, where can Tafoya's counters be viewed and purchased? I couldn't get a website hit on a web search.

Thanks~ Doc

Doc, good question. I'll have to ask Roger.

I noticed some similar counters at the U.S. Three Cushion Billiards tournament in Louisville that had numbers displayed on both sides. These would be even better.

I'll look into it.
