Retaining Ability from Performance Enhancing Drugs

then why are you spending time commenting on it? I certainly can do without your judgmental comments. I'm sure some others can as well.

You want to know why....cause I'm anti drug. Using dangerous illegal drugs gets people nowhere. My judgmental comments...sorry(not really) they bother you and some others. As for asking if taking Adderall will eventually help the mental game is like asking if taking sleeping pills will eventually let a person sleep normally. As for saying it as it is....that's how it goes. I'm not blowing smoke up anyones butt. Just having a friendly sensible conversation.

As for Not so interesting thread... I Reverse that.....Very interesting. Maybe some readers will catch on...maybe you will some day. What don't you like about my posts other than you do not want to hear anything negative about Using/Abusing. What exactly do you want to hear. Other posters told it as accurately as it can be stated. BTW... I’m in no way trying to offend you. Not my intentions.

let’s be completely clear here, comparing steroids to adderall is apples to oranges. If you suffer from add or adhd which a lot of people do they the meds may help you in everyday life including pool. Addy is a stimulant and if your motivation comes from practicing on it you will most certainly see results even if you aren’t on it. However if you suck you suck and if you can’t make a ball without it you’ll most likely not be able to make a ball with it. Everyone has those days where they see all the lines and it seems like they can’t miss because your just locked in and hyper focused, when most days your probably just not so much. Whether it’s something going on in your life, the atmosphere, a phone ringing, hearing someone who can’t whisper commenting on your shot, your opponent sharking you by setting his cue down on your backstroke or whatever that can easily cause you to lose focus and lose a game if you suffer from ADD which more than likely means you are easily distracted. I wouldn’t call that sports enhancing medication, more like exactly what it is mental health medication. If you got some screws lose (90% of us) take the meds and play like you normally would if you weren’t a nut job. I won’t say any names but I know pro’s who eat 30’s like skittles. Drugs, booze and pool just go together..

Cocaine is common in the scene. I will also not name names.

I could only imagine if these governing bodies started drug testing. LOL

The worst offender was a player that went to the bathroom after every game. This was before racking your own. He would win the match and head to the bathroom. He did this every match.

drugs can give you better performance for a short time. later on you falter. old days players got boosts for awhile but as it wears off your game changes and you dont know it or how to adjust.

i knew many pool players that got short term boosts from coke and other drugs to help their pool game.

unfortunately they are all dead now so i cant ask them if they feel any change in their lives.

Since this old thread has came to life again I will make another comment. It was a rare night I wasn't gambling on a pool table for ten or twelve years. I never minded people taking drugs. Their game would fall off and it was time for a break to retool. Ah, now they are playing way better! Still not winning for some reason. They add a little more to the mix. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I don't think I ever lost a gambling session to a doper. My pockets were pretty deep and as long as I could stay on the table when they were hot, I would get it all back and more when the mix got wrong. That was a good thing about playing the guys trying to use dope to win, they never knew when to quit. They would play until they were broke or couldn't stand up.

Funny thing, a lot of people thought I was on dope with my frequent bathroom visits. Just a BB bladder and liking for beer!

The only substance I know of that can provide some kind of lasting effect like this would be psychedelics. I'm not saying they would make one a better pool player. But the "lessons" they teach can and often do last for decades. It's more likely about things like a sense of wonder, loving your fellow man, a sense of connection/oneness, resetting a depression loop, etc. Once you understand the lesson you understand it. The common quote about psychedelics is something to the effect of "Once you get the message, hang up the phone." Meaning once you've learned what you were supposed to learn there's no need or benefit to keep doing them.

With that said, it's all how you approach it, set, setting, and of course doseage. If you've lost your love for the game because you're numbed out from depression it could potentially help you re-discover enjoyment of the game or life in general.

That said, here's an interesting story: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2020/jun/30/dock-ellis-lsd-no-hitter-pittsburgh-pirates-baseball

I honestly forget but I think there was someone on here once upon a time that had a story about playing on acid or shrooms.

Here's the thing. It won't be unheard of that some day a substance is found that is actually healthy for humans that also has other great benefits, like better memory capacity, great focus, or who knows what else.

Are you telling me that you refuse to put any beneficial substance in your body?

Society has programmed us to view certain things as bad, unless of course it's sanctioned by our Gov or the medical industry. I say, use your own head and weigh out the pros and cons and make your own decision.

_______
Bull. But of course "research" it on a pool forum. Weigh the pros and cons. No big deal. Just like choosing chalk, or a new tip.

There is no such thing as the "medical industry". That is a paranoid conspiracy term. You'll find used to great advantage by those who intend to harm others.

Are we really debating the benefits of miss-using a prescription drug...to improve your bloody pool game?
Yeah, six years later.

One of the reasons I left this forum for five years. People giving health and even medical advice that's harmful, even killing people. Not a joke.

DNR yet but genetic mutations besides permanently altered brain chemistry come to mind. A fried imprint is likely to stick with you. :D

I have no idea but after about 15 years of pretty severe depression that wouldn't go away I've been depression free for 20 years or so and counting. It's a bit like when your computer is bugging out in an endless loop and you do a restart. Then the computer works normally.

It really didn't change anything about me as far as values, or make me woo woo, but made me feel connected to the world around me instead of just a disconnected husk. It resulted in more empathy and understanding, for others and myself. Don't get me wrong, it was fun to see the fractal technicolor worlds too, but it fixed something in me that was wrong for a long time. I just did it mainly because it sounded like a neat time but it really set me right.

Without being facetious here I can't say for certain I'd even be around without the experience. :)

Glad your soul came back. Had mostly positive experience with rec drugs - until the weed got too good. So, I just quit. Never looked back.
