retirement overseas and pool

Huh? Why not?

Its one of the cleanest cities in the world.

Its one of the most smoke free cities in the world.

Its one of the cities in the world with legalised prostitution. (Not necessary a good thing but someone did mention about hookers.)

It one of the fastest growing cities in the world.

On the down side. This place is becoming more and more expensive. Not so compared to western countries though but i think we are trying to be as expensive and that's BADDDDDDD.

Guns are illegal here so never heard of a shooting incident here for as long as i can remember.

There are few cities in the world where it is safe to walk about late at night.

Come here and retire! Open a round the clock pool hall or something. I will shoot there I promise.

Do people really get caned for having a lil mary jane on them?

why not retire overseas, litterally. may i suggest a sailboat. you'd be able to go to any pool mecca with limited economical effort (load up on spam & raise ye sails (you'll also need barley and yeast (and hachis too))) and put it all on sharking. go with the weather, head south in nov. and north in may. as captain redbeard even people in polynesia will give you spots. and since your practice environment is foul, to say the least, unless you get a cat, you'll run your racks in 4.3 sec. on average.

hope this helps,

arent there huge pirate problems in that area of the world? and im not talking yo ho ho jolly pirates from disney...but thugs who will kill you, dump you into the ocean and take your boat to run drugs with.

i don't think it's that bad anymore. i'd be more careful going too close to the african east coast and staying out of certain areas of eastern indonesia. someone else might know better? how's southern tip of the philippines?

i'll be doing this, but likely w/o a barbox onboard.. then again, in 10 - 15 years there might be real virtual barboxes just hanging in the air that i can walk thru.

Well there you go! Lowest cost of living in the mecca of pool. The most expensive table time here too is just US$6.00/Hr with the average at US$4.00/Hr. At our Sports Bar that Perry and I are opening soon, US$3.50 and US$1/btl. San Miguel's. Furnished 1 bedroom condos walking distance to us and the mall (Eastwood) are around US$300-350. So are restaurants, bars, movie theatre, gym, fast food, etc. And we're on a main thoroughfare, C5. http://www.wiki-maps.com/manila/category/7 and "Search" for Superman Sports Bar
I have been thinking about retiring in the Phillipines since the thread about Jay's last visit to there.
Now with your new bar it looks even better.
Someone asked earlier about the link for the expat's in Phillipines, here it is.
http://www.livinginthephilippines.com/

Hope the links helps, there is a lot of good info in it and more links to more good stuff.

First of all, Norway hasn't got the Filipinos ;) The people in the Philippines, and their friendly smile and laughter makes me feel good.

Hmmm. Funny you mentioned that. I used to work with (also a buddy) a French guy whose girlfriend at the time (eventually married her and had 2 kids) is Norwegian. She seemed to be very reserved and had an unhappy expression even when we are laughing our asses off when a joke or two comes around. She was cordial but a smile or humor seems hard to come by. I hope the frigid Norwegian climate didn't infect her frigid demeanor. Also, she would almost dictate to my buddy how he should dress (semi-formal) for the most part regardless of the occasion. Let just say the jeans, shorts and T-shirt industry will never make a penny of of her. It's almost like he had to dress like the British royalty on official call.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not prejudiced or generalizing the Norwegian people. I'm just picking up from what you mentioned and from the Norwegian gal i knew. She could be an exception or the standard. Glad that you're infected with the Philippine warmth and smiles and longs for it. It's good for the heart and mind.
