Return Points

In theory, it seems like sharp return points would be less stable than the square ones, is this the case? Thx

Glue Area

Why?

I like sharp return points on full splice sneakies. I'm wondering the reason a lot of builders build them with square bottom return points. Seems like it may be due to the gluing area of the point or maybe its just easier to build square return points, just curious.

It's easier to build square bottom points. Most leave the points the width of their band saw blades. To go to sharp return points. Other steps must be taken. It's also easier to cut the forearms leaving the returns blunted.

With sharp returns. You have no end grain to end grain glue contact. End grain to end grain is the weekest wood glue joint. So in therory, sharp returns are stronger.

Just my opinion!

nope....fact larry:rolleyes: i just read it on the internet....i have the same end answer....but your reasoning why just adds more weight.

a wider bottom point will without induce more outside stresses on the cue than a sharp one......sort of like how the smaller an engine gets it can be an issue with compression and the sidewalls being so much thinner (mostly talking about mini model engine making...)an explosion can only be contained by "X" size of its containment structure if this makes any sense to ya.

if i were DPK i would say that sharp point gives the "joint" more wood cells to "duck" properly.

so that plus end grain.
