returning to old maple shafts.....and inside spin

So, My wife inherited a sweet old (looks like first year) color of money JN07 Joss from a friend with 2 shafts, ivory ferrules, case etc. Of course I couldn't keep my mitts off it, so down to the basement it went for a work out. Reeeealfriggin nice hit, and DAMN close to my last Black Boar. Same hit as all the Maryland cues....Boar, Joss, Black, Phillippe etc.

The thing is I have been experimenting with LD shafts the last 2 years and I noticed something odd. When playing with the Joss, center ball and outside spin shots were "normal"<<<didn't need to adjust aiming. On the other hand inside spin was out the friggin window! All this time with the LD's made inside easy with them, and I forgot how to adjust.

Here's the funny thing. I played for 2 hours and all normal shots I hit with the Joss.....then when the need for inside spin came up I grabbed my normal player with the OB-1 and walla!.....perfect balance of old school and new!

Maybe I'm onto something?

anyone else out there do this? I can remember Efren changing cues for different shots, Alcano too......but thats about it?

Grady was also doing this years ago. I still have tapes of it. He would switch cues when using certain spin. I am almost sure it was inside english when he would use a certain stick and then go to a regular cue for all other shots. I know it was during the Roanoke circa 95 era and he was still shooting real good pool.

Rempe would carry ALLOT of shafts and this was before the LD's were even around, I'm pretty sure he had different tips for different cloths. Never saw any other top players have such a selection as Jim.

all of those variables sure mess up a golfer! A smart golfer would never tote more than a driver, a medium length club, and a putter.

golfers always adjust to changing variables. they play outside where the weather changes how their playing surface plays.

if you think it's a good idea to switch up your equipment more power to you. you're the best gun shooter, fighter, golfer, pool player etc..... take what i say with a grain of salt.

Your so right....every time you play on a different table the conditions are different. Every tournament that the pros play in the conditions are in constant change as players hands add more oil to the table and as dirt/chalk and wear and tear change play. As you get closer to the finals the room humidity increases, I've played many times and during the match conditions changed dramatically. Being able to recognize and adjust is always part of the game.

What do you mean "before the LD's were even around"? You must be a young pup! In the era of Rempe, David Howard etc.. Meucci advertized that his cues had "ZERO DEFLECTION" and even proved it by allowing these pro's demonstrate their accuracy! LOL Bob was, next to Predator, the best at selling cues using BS as proof of their quality! He did have some great artwork in the 80's.

Actually IMO I'm removing a variable. When I switch to the LD I don't need adjust for the inside spin shot. As far as a variable of having 2 cues?.....I really don't notice any difference in feel when switching cues.

I guess it's similar to when a player adds an extension, or using a jumper, or a break cue. Certain cues for certain shots I guess. Whatever gets the balls in the hole.
