rewards for runouts

Last year I instituted a payout policy for runouts on my team. If a player breaks and runs on my team everybody else pays him $2.00(which they pay happily). This has been a great success and we're still doing it. Run out percentages have increased.

I've read before of teams that have jars you have to plug if you foul or lose but I've always thought it's better to reward good results than punish bad results.

What things do you guys do to reward your team mates?

last year we had the same bet.. 2 dollars and I got the award for most ero's last year with 18 .. that is an additional 108 Bucks? My math sux and it's early but I think its a good idea... however I did ended up having to pay out too...

Based on a 5 person team, $2 x 4from each of the other players x 18 = $144.

When I ran the regional tour in the NW, I used to reward break and runs with extra points in the standings. 5 points if I remember correctly and 1 point extra for a 9 ball break. It also broke any ties and we gave out an award at the end of the year for the most break and runs. Amazingly, I won it for both most BR's AND most 9BB's, lol.

last year my team put in $60 a head.....20 for wins, points, and ero's(runouts)

at the end of the year.....whatever players that have the most of those three stats, gets $100 for each

last year 1 guy got greedy and took down all 3......nice $300 payday

This reminds me of the Dads that bribe their son with $ for "hitting a home run" or "scoring a goal". "Going for the fences" has its place, but "scratching out a win" is just as valuable.
While your team run-out percentages may increase, their overall play may suffer as they become too focused with running out, choosing to take on very low percentage shots and thus lose many games they may have won had they played smart.

One of my teams lays out a deck of cards. You draw 2 cards for a win, 1 for a loss, 1 for 10-zip or break-and-run. 1 extra if you win all 4 games.

Best poker hand takes the pot, $2 to $5 per person.

When you're playing against teams full of table runners you'd better all be table runners too, or do something to become table runners. None of my guys are stupid, they all know a W is the Priority, rewards for EROs are just the icing on the cake.

I've played on teams in the past that pay $1.00 per man for a break and run and another that paid $5.00 per man.

At the end of the season, a league operator would give out a patch for the first B&R, then $1.00 per B&R after the patch.

seems a bit one sided...

Your policy only rewards the strongest players on your team. I played "league" for many years. Every year, there are one or two people on the team that far surpass the lesser lights in games won, EROs, points.
If I were one of the less skilled players on the team, "paying" the better players week after week would get old pretty quickly. JMHO

As a side note: I know the EPA... it doesn't have very many "table runners".

I LIKE THIS ONE, BUT I WOULDN'T GIVE CARDS AT ALL FOR A LOSS.

Every player has some chance at winning the pot, not just the table-runners. Or else why would they want to chip in?

If implemented into a competition it could be similar to a Highest break in Snooker.

So the player with the highest number of Break Clear takes the prize.

Also maybe a perfect game prize can be explored. Where the opponent only gets to lag for the game.

It is really something that cannot be "arranged" in a match unlike the match results and outcome. So maybe it is some new ideas to explore into the game which has been done in many other sports.

I have noticed the same thing on our team and other teams that do this. It makes the player thinking about getting that payoff instead of winning for the team.
