richiebalto started me thinking

I believe this is the first thread I have ever started. I usually just post in existing threads. Yesterday I posted a short story in the thread about pool halls in Ocean City, Md. When richiebalto responded to that post it started me thinking about something. He mentioned that a book about Scotty Townsend would sell out quick. Actually, I have already done something along those lines and I have one copy left. I have no need or desire to sell the articles I have written about Scotty, so I started trying to think of ways I might be able to get a copy to any AZ member who might want one.

One idea has me making a number of copies and passing them out at the AZ room at DCC next year. Those that get a copy would be welcome to make copies and pass them on to their AZ friends.

If there is enough interest, I believe I can talk Scotty into coming to the DCC with me for a couple of days. For the members who have never met Scotty in person, it could be a real treat.

If we're able to put this together here is just a sample of questions you may want to ask him:

When catching alligators with his bare hands, why does he dive in the water after them instead of waiting for them to get on dry land like everybody else does.

What was he thinking when in order to win a bet he jumped off the Huey P. Long Bridge from the same point others jump from when committing suicide.

How is it that he came to have a .22 caliber bullet lodged in his lower back.(You won't believe the answer to that one)

What happens when you wrestle a 500lb bear and you do something that pisses the bear off.

What happened when he bet that he could BREAK a wild bronco, although he had never been on a horse before. (Could be the funniest thing you have ever heard)

And the list goes on and on and we haven't even gotten into the pool related stories yet....

I think AZB would host them for you, as well as credit you for all your work.

There are a lotta articles and resources available under the azbilliards.com label. Sounds like yours iis fully worthy, Mr.!

That would be great!

I would love to get a copy of those articles to read. However I doubt that I will be going to DCC. I would like to know who Scotty thinks is the smartest pool player ( as far as pool sense ) that he ever played. Great idea.

HOLY S#!T, has he really done all the things that you've mentioned?

Yes

Yes, all those, and many others just as interesting that I didn't take the time to list.

And to Black-Balled. Thanks for the idea. That may be the way to go if I can figure out the technical end of getting it done. Remember, I'm from the generation that thought no one would ever top the electric typewriter.

Got your answer

I would love to get a copy of those articles to read. However I doubt that I will be going to DCC. I would like to know who Scotty thinks is the smartest pool player ( as far as pool sense ) that he ever played. Great idea.

Met up with Scotty today and relayed your question about who was the smartest player (from a pool sense standpoint) that he ever played. Without hesitation, he said, "That's an easy one, Allen Hopkins."

Just a little side note, when we were in the pool room today two road players came in looking for action. They knew Scotty and wanted nothing to do with playing him 9-ball, so they started trying to match up at one-pocket. Scotty rarely plays the game and doesn't like it at all. Scotty knew that one-pocket was the road players best game, so he was a little ticked off when the roadie asked him for weight. When they finally agreed on the weight, Scotty said, "OK we can play". The roadie was getting up from his chair to get his cue when Scotty added, "for $500 a game". The roadie sat back down real quick, and said, "I thought we were going to play for like $50 a game". Scotty replied, "Nope, If I'm gonna have to play a game I don't like, then I ain't doing it for less than $500."

The road player didn't think the game he had agreed to sounded nearly as good for $500 a game, and he begged off.

I've always liked the "REAL" Merlin the Magician story, especially after I've had a few beers.:D

Scotty has to be my most favorite pool player and a great guy to hang around with.

I would like to see Scotty get paid for some of his stories. He's entertained me on more than one occasion. Heck, I'll go play in a tournament that I hadn't planned on playing in, if I hear Scotty will be there.

I think Scotty's stories would be entertaining to those outside of the pool world.

I would like to see you have these stories written up in a PDF format and sold online at amazon.com or some other such entity. With the IPAD phenomena going on, maybe you can capitalize on Scotty's stories.

Joey,

You hit the nail on the head while blindfolded with that post. That's exactly what we were discussing yesterday. Scotty has an appointment next week with someone who can set all this up. You're right, when I have shared some of the stories with people outside of the pool world, they just can't seem to get enough.
