Rings on the joint

I am planning to have a cue butt made and use an aftermarket CF shaft in the future. Since the rings on the aftermarket shaft will not be identical to the butt of the cue, I am thinking of adding what is supposed to be a ring on the shaft into the butt of the cue like in the picture below. Are there any flaws with this concept? Ring is made from burl wood, black material is phenolic

It's become very popular to do that

Go for it.

I've also noticed some cue brands like Cuelees doing the same.

1st time I saw this done was with an older Dennis Searing merry widow. I always wondered how he lined up the joint rings so well lol.

Being away for 5 years the whole CF shaft thing is new for me. I saw this and had to think for a minute, I didn't get it at first. LOL!

I have seen the "adapters" for a certain brand, don't know which. Why not just make CF shafts with rings? I mean, you can put a ferrule inserted on the other end. A custom joint end should be realistic, or am I stupid?

Thanks! I think that's the first for me. But I haven't researched these shafts at all yet.

I could be wrong, but as far as I know me and John Davis were the first to do this double joint. We offered it as an option on Davis-Prince cues we did together. At the time it didn’t feel like it was catching on with cue collectors. They still wanted rings on the shafts but it’s great for all these CF shafts. This one is from 2011 and we did some before that as well

BHQ gave you the props for it when he started.doing them iirc

And what does your picture have to do with this thread???
Oh... wait for it
These just got the dirty coat last night.
As the late Judd Fuller told me once, they're ugly without rings.

All new to me. Adding the rings to the butt to "imitate" the traditional look isn't appealing to me, maybe it would grow on me?

I also ran into synthetic tips now, so I have to follow up on that.

WTF is going on? I have carbon fiber in all my shafts, it's called wood! Woven by nature! LOL!

Next we will be building cues like Legos. Standardize the diameter and threads for each part, sell a butt cap, butt sleeve, handle, forearm, and joint in a variety of design configurations, with rings that can screw in between each of them. A CF shaft for it...and each part with a variety of weights available. Build the cue how you like.

Wait...I said that out loud. I should have patented it. But now I said it here, so it can't be claimed as an original idea. ;)

I like wood. I just do. But I am not a pro player and I suspect this is going to change the equipment they use forever.

One day, some dude will walk into a tournament with a cue he "wound" himself out of CF in his garage and change everything.

I have been studying how CF parts are made, but I still want a cue lathe...
