I hate to report this, but just thought everyone should know. A great pool player and a great man in the Houston area passed away on Friday night. Charlie Mckinley had been battling cancer for quite a while now. Anyone that knew him will truly miss him. He was a funny guy that wore quirky shirts!! The viewing is scheduled for this Wednesday, I will try and post the details for anyone who wants to attend as soon as I get them.

RIP Charlie we will miss you.

I have never met Charlie and has no idea who Charlie is, but that doesn't matter. Charlie, rest in peace stranger, hope you are in a better place by our Lord's side. My prayers and condolences go out to his family and friends.

I played Charlie some sessions of straight pool on a trip to Houston about 6 years ago. He seemed like a great guy. I was under the impression his last name was "McGinley", though. We played at Sonny Daughtry's poolroom on NASA Rd 1. Not sure if it's still around.

same here, dont know the guy but its sad anyone passes away.

sorry for your loss.

Wow. This is sad for me because I knew him. :frown:

I use to play leagues with Charlie (and Courtney) and he was always a very nice guy to play with.

I went to Las Vegas twice representing Breakers. He ran the league when I played out of Sonnys' place.

After I quit playing in the local leagues, I would still see him at the Fast Eddie's tournaments when they were in Houston, chatting it up with Tom H., hillbilly, or a number of others.

He was always waay up at the top of our league stats. He was a helluva a player and a helluva a friend.

Rest In Peace Charlie.

Charlie was a great guy. Always friendly and upbeat. Very genuine and unassuming. I had no clue he was fighting cancer.

Two years ago in the Houston Open, Charlie handed me my ass by a score of 9-2. He was such a great guy, I couldn't even be a little bit sore at him.

A couple of years ago I showed up at breakers on Sunday night and Mr. Freeman put me in a 1-pocket game with a local guy. Well, I had just put a Tiger hard tip on my cue and wasn't used to it at all and must have miscued about 6-8 times and ended up getting beat by a guy I should have handled.
Charlie was in attendance and amazed at my strugggles. I left and drove back to San Antonio that night to be awakened the next day by Charlies call. He was very concerned about me. It was amusing as he thought I had some personal problems. I assured him it was that Tiger tip that I just wasn't used to. He then asked why I simply didn't change shafts, and I didn't have a real good answer other than I wasn't used to it either. Charlie seemed very confused by my answer and I suppose I didn't balme him.

Charlie loved to see people at their best. That was his concern and I always appreciated that about him.

This is really sad news and I feel guilty that I didn't know of his battle with cancer. Mt deepest sympathies to his friends and family.
