RIP Cyclop?????

I have a set of hyperions, no problems at all with them. They were an upgrade from the cheap tier aramiths that came with the table. They stay clean and it's fun to put "money balls" out when playing with friends. No odd rolls or anything experienced here. The colors are a matter of preference, I'm not the hugest fan of the green, but it beats a damn pink 4 ball. The designer of the new aramiths with a pink 4 and a purple 5 should be dragged out in the street and shot. Aramith is top notch, but anything benefits from competition. I think pool as a whole loses out when there are less companies to become sponsors.

I never had any problem with the colors of the Cyclops, but the pros need to be playing with pool balls in which they have confidence, and the Cyclops balls never qualified on that basis.

Super Aramith and Brunswick Centennials are the ball sets I prefer.

The pro’s have been playing with strange colored balls since the 90’s with the elephant beautiful balls and then the television balls every company was making so it was easier to watch at home. They are pro’s.. they are ok lol

I agree with that.

I don't mind a pink-ish or similar shade for the 4, but a purple 5 is straight blasphemy. I'd shoot that out of order all day.

All the goofy skittles-style tv balls were designed for standard def. tv. Once HD became commonplace there was ZERO need for them. The traditional colors show up perfectly on a decent HD broadcast/stream.

I played at DCC the year they switched to Cyclop. The outer layer of the Cue Ball was translucent and caused a lot of issues when it came to aiming. It seemed like they all rolled off a little but the Cue Ball was really bad. There was no way it was the table because the roll off direction was never consistent. Seemed that EVERY player I spoke to had the same experience and hated those balls.

That part is silly.

Anybody care to dig thru the archives and find a few quotes about all the 'problems' aiming a measles ball and what a pox:grin-square: is is (was) on the game?

Those early 'clop cueballs were pathetic. They looked bizarre and rolled like crap.

I dunno...I got a few sets when they were on AZB early offer and they have been my favorite set since.

Any vids on the youtubes documenting the alleged crappiness?

The first year in Vegas there were quite bad rolls due to bad cueballs. They fixed them since.

Just got my set of Dynasphere Tungsten balls.

They’re top quality and shinier and slicker than my Cyclop set. Slippery balls make the pockets bigger.😎

Got them from Olhausen for less than $85.

My oh my. I have hit a couple of my drills. The snooker based one that Steve Hendry did with snooker balls on a 12’ and didn’t miss for an incredible # of balls. So anyway these balls allow for more accurate shots. The hardness and consistency is noticeable to me. No really it allows for pin point precision. I am ready to set a new person all best.

It will be interesting to see if the luster wears off. Right now the surfaces are like glass.

I don’t notice any difference in the transfer of chalk from tip to cue ball. I look to play each shot with just the right influence to moderate the friction. It will be interesting and report Ed when I need the inside. Well so far only a couple of extreme spin stroke and it well made me feel good.🥴

Final first day assessment . Well maybe.

I see the same amount of chalk transferred to the cue ball but not the same retention. It appears that the chalk transfers to the cloth more readily.

I am still stoked. Kind of sad at the same time, as it eliminates one excuse. Did I ever tell you about the excuse T-shirts my partner and I won?🥴

Take one for the team

Yeah it’s really hot here but I will venture back into the shop, put my lab coat on and continue the research.

The movie, “The Jerk” is my movie so I am aware that the opti-grab could happen again. Will start investigating the long term. Who knows, maybe in a week they will start to shatter sending shrapnel. But I bet they don’t 🥴. Look how well the Cyclop has held up.

Lol I agree... People will blame anything on a miss. I played with the translucent ball and had no issue. My set didn’t come with it and I kind of wish it did. It was cool looking.

There was a lot of video when they first came out. It wasn’t all sets. They just had some quality issues. I didn’t notice anything when I was playing with them at the expo the first year they came out. It is why they dumped the translucent cue ball and went to a more traditional one.

Will have to let Greg speak for himself ...

Wouldn't that also translate to not being able to get as much action on the CB...?

We will have to let Greg speak for himself but I purchased the tungsten set also. Better action on the cue ball than my cheap ball sets that they are replacing. So far these balls have exceeded expectations.

Just the opposite. At least when it comes to draw. I can draw the ball further. I expect that is because the back spin stays on longer due to less friction with the cloth. This surprised me.
