What are some good reads that have stories of the old road players? I'm not looking for instructional books just books similar to Pool Wars. Also interested in some of the better written books by players that or/were pro or on the road that were good reads. I read one a while back and can't remember what it was but it was a tough read.

I'm sure I'm missing quite a few but those popped into my head right away.

Personally I think hustler Days is the best written and the Encyclopedia has the best stories and most info. Those two really give you a feel for what is was like in "the good ol days"

I'm picking up Running the Table: The Legend of Kid Delicious, the Last Great American Pool Hustler today and I'm going to check amazon for the ones you listed J Shwarz. I really appreciate the list. If anyone knows where to buy them where I support the actual people that wrote them or inspired them shoot me a pm. I would rather spend a few extra dollars and have it go straight to the source then picking them up second hand.

Yeah, I'm from Chicago, so I know I'm biased. But the book was damn good ;) Rated at 4.7 stars out of 5 on Amazon !!

Great coffee table book. I like thumbing through it during commercials or watching game on TV. I've read it a few times now. Obviously, there are LOTS of other great ones, just my personal favorite. I like Pool Wars too ;)

There is an older post on here from a member who worked in a book store and he posted a ton of books that had a pool theme.

If you liked Pool Wars, you will probably enjoy More Pool Wars as well.
A must have book for any pool library is "The Bank Shot and Other Great Robberies," the biography of Minnesota Fats by Tom Fox. R.A. Dyer wrote two very good books, "The Hustler and The Champ" and "Hustler Days." "Cornbread Red" is a fun read if you can find a copy. Other obscure but entertaining books include Peter "Rabbit" Linhard's autobiography "How To Get By Without Working" and the equally hard to find "Billiards" by John Grissim.

I particularly liked Playing Off The Rail, The Road Player and Running The Table. I'm still reading Confessions of a Pool Hustler.
