It was a nice touch to see that all these three members of the 2013 Mosconi Cup team have endorsed and are supportive of Mark Wilson's team.
They have all gone on record on Facebook and Mike Dechaine has already accepted them too. This bodes well for the future of the game. So isn't it time all this silly woofing and bickering stopped and everybody got behind your team

Exactly!! Everyone is stuck on bashing our national team! And we wonder why pro pool is in the state it's in??? It really makes me laugh how truly STUPID people are!:)

Realizing how stupid people are always makes for a good laugh... Until you meet that one special person that is so stupid you start to really wonder about people :sorry:

On a different note I think the US could really use our support to bring home the Mosconi cup. USA! USA!

After thinking about this I have to say that maybe it's time to drop the controversy... Mark has a task at hand which is daunting to say the least... At this point it really doesn't matter what anyone thinks about who was selected and how the selections were made....

Instead of being in the camp of creating division I am simply going to get in the camp that is supporting this years team and hope they have success...

In the case of Johnny, Dennis, Rodney and Mike I hope they are in the same camp as is evidenced by their voices on facebook and I have no right to assume they are not truly behind this year's team.....

We as a country tend to believe in 2nd chances... Maybe pro pool learns something from what is going on and the players can shed old habits and attitudes and everyone will have the chance to turn over new leafs and be a part of the sport they love.. Punishments should fit crimes and nothing has been done by anyone in the sport that warrants lifetime exclusion from participation in events...

Their empathy extends to the fact that they hope that this year's team will crash in flames... and they get back in for the free roll...

Guessing Earl and Shane are still making distance....

Mike is the only one with a shot to get back in the good graces.... And it will require a re-dedication....

Even if Mark's team goes 12-2 it will be exactly the same as last year without the..............Sorry... I lost my train of thought... Who bet what where.... errrrrr wait who made savers and..... wow I guess I need to cut out the crown... or the reality....

Say goodbye Dennis and Rodney..... The US is going to invitational formats.... AND actions and character factors in as much as skill.....

Everyone else is getting the memo while Johnny is carrying Dennis out of the recent event in Denver.......

For the first time in a long time I am starting to have a little hope for this sport.....

Just my opinion... doesn't have to be yours.....

Chris

dude I agree. There are a alot of people that can play this sport good. Why not have people that are dedicated and are professional. Johnny had the game and makings to take this sport where ever he wanted but didn't for whatever reason. He was captain last year don't know what he did but everytime I saw it on the stream he was in the stands talking to his family. I also have no idea what buddy brought to the table. But its time to let some of the young dedicated players go for it. I'll be rooting!

I guess I'm one of the dumb ones, because I don't like the way the selection was handled. I wanted to see people earn their way on the team, not just handpicked, which I believe has been part of our problem. People have been picked who were basically part time players, instead of having to produce some results in tournament play. Promote a point system, or some kind of system, where every player who wants to be on the team knows the criteria, and can play their way on the team. Then you know who can produce under pressure, and you know who wants to be on the team. As someone put it, it was just a free ride for some players.

So in other words the same embarrassing, poorly behaved, non sportsman like, proven questionable character laden team (saying it nice) should continue to represent America to the world.

Who is Mike Dechaine? I never heard of him. Is he going to be a referee or maybe drive the players around?

Even assuming "earning the right to play based on finishes" is the best way to choose the team (which I don't disagree on, in principal) there aren't enough events left that are big enough to be true qualifying level tournaments.

Perhaps in the future there will be more such tournies again, and hopefully when that occurs Mark will have righted the ship attitude-wise. I do believe that in the current environment, and due to recent past performance and lack of professionalism, Marks way is the correct one.

No sir, not what I said. I think those who WANT to be on the team should be able to earn their way on. If they've proven they are a problem and misrepresent the sport, the captain has some leeway, but I don't think you should just say, so and so is on the team and that's that. Let them prove they deserve to be on the team.

He's the guy the kids on this years team will be singing about. Come to the cup and sing along,

"Sometimes I dream, that he is me, you got to see that's how I dream to be..."

Mike will now be known as Chauffeur Mike.

At least we won't have to suffer Dennis being a Wild Card pick and crumbing for votes on AZ and not having the decency to return and say a simple Thanks Guys.

I would say so.

I think those who WANT to be on the team should be able to earn their way on.

Yeah, and we saw how well that has worked in the past. I think the present team has earned their way on by being the opposite of what No Stroke has described.

I used to play hockey with Dirk Graham who is now a scout for the Chicago Black Hawks. I can tell you that Raw Talent is only going to get you so far.
They also consider other factors like Character when choosing who is going to be invited to a training camp.

I believe that people are going to see a 100% turned around Team this year. A person doesn't have the time in one year to develop a team that has been
undeveloped for so many years. I hope or believe that Mark will have the opportunity to Captain the Team for many years to come.

Just a couple of questions. Are the players you know and love really the best players today? Are there others who may play to the same or higher standard but do not have the financial ability to travel to the various "pro" events? Which is the absolute truth? Until Mike D won the UPA Championship a few years ago, he was just another regional player. Tournament results are not the only way to gauge a players ability. JMHO

To answer your question, I don't have favorite players that i want on the team outside of those picked. I want the best team possible. I'm pulling for the US of A, I don't care who's on the team. I just believe that part of our problem is that we've been handpicking players who haven't earned the right, based on reputation. On last years team especially, we had players who played very few tournaments, but they were big names, like Dennis Hatch. John Schmidt this year is the same way. He plays a few tournaments, usually straight pool, and that's it. Are these guys great players? Sure, but show me you want to be on the team, and you want to compete. These semiretired players getting picked for the Mosconi Cup is not helping team USA

i thought Matchroom was running this shin-dig? you think it's possible, that they might have put their foot down on the non-returning players & new scope? do you have any idea how much money they had to refund on Day 4 tickets, cause most of our "pros" didn't make a crucial shot? how much did that cost them in sponsorships? or could? the USA is lucky that Barry didn't jerk it from us & change to North America or Asia.

i mean, it is their $$$$$$$ and reputation....

Mark Wilson is building a reliable team, that should restore faith in pool.

Mark has 8 players and the 5 that make it thru to the show will have earned the spots... We do not have enough ranking tournaments here to establish 5 players and the expense is too great for US players to travel abroad so Mark's criteria is all that matters....

The one player I would have liked seen have a shot was Hunter Lombardo as he and Shane have been the only 2 Americans in many of the tournaments abroad the last few years......

Finally, some good sensible posts on the matter.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Well... it's broke. The US discord last Cup (which I and Pinky attended knee deep) was palpable - in the arena and out of the arena.

There's a reason why Shane and Earl played in Matchroom's next event after the Cup. If anyone thinks Earl was the primary reason for the discord, you're mistaken.

I'm 2 thumbs up on our new approach. Now if someone could put a little arsenic in Johan's tea... ;)

Yes the U.S. is lucky, because if Barry got mad and removed Europe from the Mosconi Cup then we will never beat them again, I can't argue with you there.

P.S.,
I have to admit that my cheeck's were hurting trying not to smile when writing this,
