Dude, I am on-board with you about this. Every time I get the chance I will play a top player. When I was in Sioux Falls a few weeks ago I played Shane even one pocket for ten a game and let him win $100. I knew I wouldn't win, but it was worth it to me. I played Tony Watson some even 9-ball sets for $20 and let him rob me out of $100. I love playing with the top players, it makes my day and I never intend on beating them.
I just wanted to comment that it comes off as foolish to turn a debate on the value of playing pool with the pros into a petty argument about whether or not you can beat the guy with whom you are debating. JMO.

We had Roger Griffis come through Tucson a couple years ago. Everybody could play him for the cost of $10. If ya won, you got a t-shirt that read "I beat the Rocket".mullyman said:

I played Buddy Hall some $20 9 ball back in the mid 70's with the 7 ball. He ended up backing me up to the 8 ball because I was winning. That very fact was worth the money .... LOL (on a bar table) I felt privileged to just having played him, especially when he was the best Road player in the country at the time.

Im not usually in the camp that donates to the pros for the sake of saying I played them. That might be because I always played in an area where there were world class players who would match up for the $100. I always believed you got better experience if the game was handicapped tough for both parties and that if you matched up where it was complete stealing for the pro, you were not getting their best game and a good learning experience.
That said, I would happily donate $100 to Efren to play him some. As long as I had my camera with me

I threw $10 for a rack with him at VF. I waited 20 minutes for my turn; he broke and ran. If I get the chance to face him again locally, I won't pass it up. I'd love to return the favor. Tequila for everyone.

its worth the $100. i know ive played rodney $100 sets and it was a good expierience and made me a better player
I know and have worked with Rodney and I hope to again some day. He is one of the nicest guys you will meet. fun and I think would even be willing to show you a couple of things while you play. Rodney is a class act and I really do not say that about alot of people. Pay the $$ it is way worth it as you will get more that just a game with him.
Rodney is a great guy, and very real. He weathered some storms to become a good family man and he is a blast to be around. If there was more money in pool guys like him, Alex, Keith, Scotty T, and a few others have the personality to build a tour around.
