I don't think he played to leave it on the baulk cushion. Lots of players seem to play these days to block the right side of the pack with the green and maybe the left side with the blue.

I agree 100%
He hit to close to the corner so he came out on a line that is more speed sensitive. He often leaves the cue ball 6" off the cushion directly behind the 3.

I think it might have been Ronnie who said that if you roll up behind the green or yellow on the break off, it's because you mishit it. They are trying get behind the yellow and green but the cue ball is supposed to be on the baulk cushion.

Rolling behind the yellow and green doesn't gain much of an advantage since it isn't hard to roll into the pack off of one cushion. At least leaving it tight on the cushion makes cueing difficult and leaving the possibility open to miss hit the return safety.
