Rubber on the Rails trouble…

Just had my 3 yr old Diamond get recovered this past weekend. As the guys were recovering the table I noticed cracks in both the short rails. Side rails were all fine.

The table was bought brand new from Diamond in 2021. Table is in a temperature controlled environment along with a dehumidifier. I do not know much about rubber rails, but I do not think this is normal. Hence my reason looking to you guys for advice

That does not look good. Did the installer draw your attention to it? If not, I would never use that installer again. There are clearly some issues with those cushion rubbers that need to be replaced. I would strongly suggest getting all the cushion rubbers replaced so they will match.

I think these are the original cushions if i'm reading his post right.
 
Maybe it’s just me, but it’s not clear exactly what happened. Are you talking about cracks in the wood of the rails, or cracks in the rubber cushions. I would think you need much better photos, and somebody like Bradshaw or RKC.
 
I looked again and now I see😜. The hairline cracks in the nose of the cushion. No idea how common that is. Might be interesting what Diamond has to say. I would definitely want to consult a qualified professional, that has seen thousands of tables. Also, why just the end rails? Have you posted in the Ask a Mechanic?
 
Cracks in the rubber. These are the original rails from when the table was delivered brand new and set up by Diamond. I just had a guy come from out of town(not affiliated with Diamond) to put on new cloth, and when he stripped off the cloth on the rubber I noticed these cracks in the rubber

That’s kinda what I was wondering… also when I took the picture I made sure to get that number printed on the rubber just in case that was maybe a “Lot Stamp” or whatever it would be called to identify this rubber, and maybe there was an iss for this grouping of rubber made
 
Well for an original owner. 3 YO table kept in a temperature controlled location and being from a known company - yes this is not acceptable - they should offer to have their mechanic replace all your table rubber.

One thing - maybe two: 1 You noticed this and not the guy doing the work? 2. I maybe would have held off posting this unless they would not make good on it - then you would have the further leverage of releasing the photos to internet sites - now the cat is already out of the bag - I would still use that leverage of going even more public with this if they refuse to acknowledge and fix the issue.
 
I know you have your table in a climate controlled environment, but was your table delivered in the dead of winter? Just curious if your table sat in the back of a frozen truck for any period of time? The polymer in the rubber could become brittle if it’s too cold
 
Just one more person saying get all six cushions replaced.

You have been a little less than forthcoming as to where the table is at. Is it in a house, an enclosed patio, an out building, a commercial setting?

I don't mean to be pushy but sometimes one or two details can make a big difference. Is the table near a fireplace? Have climate control close and blowing directly on the table?

They will almost certainly stand behind the cushions once. If your actions are causing the problem or contributing to it they might not the second time so if there are contributing factors that needs to be taken care of too.

FYI, keep in mind that the cost for Diamond to supply all 6 new Artemis cushions including new rail cloth and shipping is still likely less than 1/2 of what a qualified professional mechanic will charge you for the labor.

Do the short rails work OK? How many lengths can you get shooting up the middle of the table?

I would expect four and a half lengths -- hit each end cushion twice and end between the side pockets. Maybe even get the fifth cushion.
 
Looks like what happens to rubber when exposed to different chemicals. Any chance the slate or rubber was cleaned with Windex or another cleaner that contains ammonia during install?

When delivered the rails already had the cloth on them. Never used any chemicals on the table. Only a damp towel.
