Rules Question - Last Pocket 8-ball

Both last balls are inside the jaws of the same corner pocket with player A's ball slightly forward of B's ball. Player A shoots and makes a good hit on his ball. Player B's ball falls into the pocket, followed by player A's ball. We play if both players last balls are pocketed in the same pocket, the second player has the pocket across the table for his pocket. since they can't both have the same pocket. However, since player A shot at and made both balls on the same shot and his ball went into the pocket after B's ball, there was a question as to which player had which pocket. We decided that A would have the pocket the balls went into since he was the one who made both balls.

What do you folks think of this situation?

Thanks in advance for your input.

I would say that pocket belongs to player B, player A has the short opposite pocket.

Player A made his ball on his turn and still continues, dropping his opponent's balls doesn't change that outcome.

In the last pocket league I played in first ball that dropped got the pocket, didnt matter who shot it in.

We play at my local bar that the player that initiated the shot gets that pocket, and then chooses any other pocket on the table for their opponent, with the exception of the side pockets.

Makes no difference which ball fell first. Sometimes you can not tell easily.

was just about to type this same thing, the way that i've seen it is who's ball falls first cause i've played that follow the ball in shot and lose my turn on some "WTF" i made my ball only to have them say "yea, but X's ball fell first", so i don't play any more.

I would think that this is the correct answer. His turn and he continues to shoot.
Pretty much like when playing one pocket, if you pocket your game winning ball along with also pocketing your opponents game winning ball at the same time even if his ball went in first, you win. This is a situation that can come up in a game where there is a spot involved.

In general, in pool, time is measured in increments of a shot, not seconds on a clock.

In the example, both balls were pocketed on the same shot, so the were pocketed at the
same time in 'pool standard time'

Local interpretations may vary.

Heh, you would really hate how we play at the local bar. Our rules are that your opponent picks the pocket you have to put the 8 in. :)

That's how I usually play it, except for giving them a side pocket.

I'd rather not play no same last pocket. The reason is, if you're both on the 8 ball and have the same last pocket, you can't just roll up to your pocket and leave it in front of your hole. You make the shot or leave it for your opponent to win. Tougher game.

Best,
Mike
