Run-Out-a-Day YouTube challenge.

Here's Day 12 (link below). It's not the prettiest out, but I've done worse and will definitely count it with the others.

I'm still waiting for some more company. Anyone willing to join in the fun I can tell you it'll really help your game. You don't have to do it everyday. Even if you did it once a week, I think you'll find the added patience will be as welcome as I have found it to be.

Also I'd like to see how others would approach a challenge like this, and if I could learn a thing or two about video that'd be cool too.

I'm in Jacksonville as well, couldn't tell from the one video I saw if I know you or not, I don't get out to play in the tourneys much anymore but might try to start making it down to Park Av on Tuesdays assuming that continues. Sad about Martin. I played maybe 2 or 3 months ago, and before that maybe in Feb/Mar. Like I said, don't get out much... :)

I try to do some break and run out practice or at least Ghost-type pool each time I practice, in addition to working on particular aiming things, stroke, or drills. I'm usually up at Riggsy's on Tuesdays and Thursdays if you feel like some company or practice, also willing to help with whatever. Can't claim to be in Grossman's and the other's company due to my lack of playing and tournament time but at least I can complete pretty well when I do play them and win here and there. We certainly have a good amount of decent players here in Jax, makes for very tough tourneys.

Good luck!
Scott

Here's Day 13 (link below.) This table is going to be a regular in this challenge, not just because it's one of the nicer Diamonds in town---it actually has a Diamond light on it---but also because it's really close to my house.

Hey Scott. I don't know if we've met yet either. If you come to Park on Tuesday's for the tournament (they're still having it as far as I know), I'll likely be there. It's a favorite of mine. Come on out, and you'll find it to be as tough as you expect to be, but still plenty of fun.

Two weeks done! Just fifty left to go...

Here's Day 14 (link below.) This makes two weeks worth for Run-Out-a-Day.

I'm still feeling well health-wise, and I think my game has appreciated all the practice.

I've also learned how to use the YouTube editor to make compilation videos. The first one is just a shrunk down summary of Week 1 (link below.) I'll be working on Week 2's, and that'll be posted soon as well.

That's all for now. Expect more soon...

Hey guys how are things going in Jax? It's nice to see videos up it shows a ton of commitment and willingness to put yourself out there, the camera is the best feedback while being the most brutal ha ha.

Things in Hawaii are going about as well as expected, I haven't switched to Golf from playing pool yet but that is going to happen very shortly. There is zero pool scene here which kind of blows so those of you in Jax please appreciate what you have, like you have said there is great talent in the area plus some of the best equipment around!!

Neil! Long time buddy. It's great to hear from you. We all miss you here, but we're happy to hear things are going well for you out there. I'll pass on the message, and make sure people aren't taking what we have here for granted.

Day 15

Still working on the editing for Week 2's compilation video. But here's Day 15, another one recorded at New Blanding Billiards. Tomorrow's will likely be from Park Avenue Billiards or Solids and Stripes, both in Orange Park. More soon...

Here's Day 16 (link below.) It's been so much fun doing these so far. I'm learning a lot about my game, as well as the importance of setting goals in general. I recommend to everyone, if you're looking for a way to improve your game, you should set a goal to practice with a specific objective in mind. That's what I believe is the most valuable thing I've learned yet.

Is this too easy?

Day 17 (link below.). I know I'm no where near finished, but in my mind I feel like it's almost too easy to be meaningful. I don't know if it's just getting easier because I'm expecting it to, or if it wasn't that challenging to begin with. Can anyone relate to this who's started to practice more than they had previously?

Absolutely! Read the prediction I made earlier in this thread: this will pay off dividends for you.

Don't forget there are people out there who'll play the Ghost in a race to something (10 in my case) regularly, and expect to come out the winner.

You'll get there!

Greetings from Switzerland, David.

Without ball in hand?

Without ball in hand?

I recommend doing either, depending on a player's skill level, and possibly the equipment (and of course whether or not the balls are tapped or the Magic Rack template is in use). Also worth practicing with EPBF break rules (a total of three balls dropping and/or crossing the kitchen line), which is what I was practicing most often before my tennis arm got so much worse.

I also devise extra rules, as I want people to practice, not discourage them. In 10-Ball, for example, it can be tough to achieve both: making balls on the break and get shape. I tell students to play safe, and that if they get a full ball safety (no part of the object ball visible from the position of the cue ball), it buys them another break (= it's neither a loss nor a win - of course, if the safety fails, however good it may be otherwise, it's a loss). Championship calibre players are encouraged to also execute the jump or kick to the best of their ability (in the Ghost's stead, so to speak), and if they make the ball or get a resafe, the game is lost (for them, not the Ghost!). After all, practice is useless unless one is honest with oneself.

Greetings from Switzerland, David.

Not taking ball in hand...

Without ball in hand?

I've been saying for years that my break needed improving, so I committed to doing this challenge without taking ball in hand after the break.

It makes it more difficult than just playing the ghost, but so far my break has become more reliable. I've definitely stopped scratching/off-tabling as much, and that alone is a very welcome improvement.

I recommend to anyone who enjoys playing the ghost for practice, consider not taking ball in hand after the break. It'll be frustrating at first, but try to keep the purpose of your practice in mind.

this thread makes me hungry for some exercise  i think ill head to the poolhall before the friends arrive so i can practice :)

ill follow your thread, i love your idea

Without ball in hand?

Should add (you're probably curious about the "expect to come out the winner" aspect): the answer to your question is yes, but that no one I know can do it every time. A practice session may include several attempts. When I was younger, I used to not eat, nor sleep, and when I got rally mad at myself, I'd even deny myself a visit to the loo before I'd done what I'd set my mind on. Athletes are nutters, my shrink relatives would say. But at least they get to boast about their tennis elbow, I say in reply.

Hey Neil, hope you are doing well! Miss you here, your name comes up all the time - all good of course... :)

Stay in touch!

After 17 days, the streak came to an end yesterday. I started a little too late in the day, and also didn't begin the day with a full battery on my iPad, which caused further delays.

Anyway, I will be taking a break, and will begin a second attempt soon. The first attempt taught me a good deal, and I hope I can use my shortfall to serve up an even greater effort on my next go.

Mr. Bond and elvicash you were very generous with your offers, but I couldn't pull it off this time. You are relieved of your commitments, and I thank you for your support.

I applaud your efforts nonetheless, because yes, that was a pretty big commitment. Hopefully you have learned something from the experience, at least about yourself.

All the best,
DBB
