Run-Out-a-Day YouTube challenge.

Thought you all might get a kick out of this.

My ROaD videos have generated some $$$, or a $ would probably be more like it.

It's one of the many cool services Google offers the world, and this is the first I've benefited from it.

Here's the link:
[had to delete this per YT agreement]

Anyway, it made me laugh, and then it made me want to go shoot some more videos.

Thank you to all, and expect more soon,

Robert

Here goes another try...

I've begun another attempt at the ROaD YouTube Challenge. I'm starting all over again at Day 1.

The last attempt ended after 17 days, and I learned a lot from that effort. Hopefully that will make this go round last even longer.

The first runout of this attempt [link below] comes from Solids and Stripes, in Orange Park, FL. I was planning to wait about another week or two before starting this next try, but the table was there, I had my camera, and I just couldn't help myself.

Day 1[again]:

Well now - look who's back on the horse

I am offering a $150 donation to the Billiard Education Fund (BEF) in your name, if you complete your run-a-rack-per-day-for-a-year-on-video challenge.

Please, for the sake of the viewers, don't skimp on proof. I would hate for someone to accuse you of some kind of dishonesty. Perhaps holding up a newspaper or showing the date on your cell phone would suffice.

Best of luck to you sir.
And may the force be with you.

Hang Tough!!!

Already at the WTF point, just three days into it. But in the past I haven't been much for setting goals, and I'm trying to change that. Hopefully this will help. I will at the very least get better at breaking and using the camera as best I can.

You will understand the word dedicated much better after 300 days.

Thank you, Mr. Bond. Your generosity added a great deal to the stakes of my last attempt, and I appreciate you upping the ante for my second go.

I will start with tomorrow's video to do the cell phone proofing technique. I'm afraid it won't satisfy all skeptics (one never can), but I like that method most for its simplicity.

I will be taping early tomorrow to make sure I get this week started off well.

As always, expect more soon....

I'm just going to ask here because it's easier than bouncing around between threads.

Do you like what we're planning with Grand Tour Promotions? (link below.)

Your honest opinions, positive or otherwise, is what I'm looking for here.

I think this forum is the single greatest thing the sport has going for it, and that's why I'm looking for it to grow, both in memberships and in responsibilities. Chief among those responsibilities is providing feedback to tour directors, league operators, promoters, and other industry leaders that will provide them what they need to serve the community as best they can.

Thanks,

Here's Day 2 (link below.)

I tried the cellphone timestamp idea to verify the date. The camera wasn't in focus well enough to read the screen. Anyway I recorded right after with the camera focused better (2nd link.) I like the method to verify, but I will have to remember to adjust from now on, that way I'll keep it to one video per day. Learning every day.

Funny thing happened today.

First rack of the day (1st link below), I break and run, but my iPad ran out of memory cause I haven't cleaned it up in a while. Took just too much time. Ouch!

Before I got too mad at myself, I went right back to racking, after I deleted some old stuff, of course. Got the full runout (slightly cleaner out, too) just four racks later, and I remembered to focus on the cell this time (2nd link). Phew!

Expect more soon...

ROaD has another challenger...

My friend Brian McBride has accepted the Run-Out-a-Day YouTube challenge. He's even taking it a great deal further by creating a blog (link below) to report the progress, as well as keeping stats, like some have suggested in this thread.

I'm really impressed with the approach he's taking, and am glad to see someone joining in the fun.

That's all for now, expect more soon...

Robert

Here's my Day 4 (link below). It's a fairly improbable two pack, but a two pack none the less, making it my first one for ROaD. 'Bout time.

Of course it had to come with a minor recording error. I forgot to refocus the camera after the cell phone time stamp of the first runout. It makes the second run pretty difficult to see. I won't make that mistake again.

Expect more soon,

Robert

I like the blog format!
Scott

I'm really impressed too, and don't be surprised if I break down and start a blog myself. I think it makes an excellent method of recording our achievements along the way, and also makes following our progress easier for our fans. Do we have fans yet?

Anyway, I'm thankful to Brian for raising the bar, and reminding me to expect more of myself each day. I think he's on his way to a long run on the ROaD challenge, and he'll be excellent motivation for me to keep improving my own efforts.

Day 5 (link below.) Another two pack today! It seems I'm doing really well once I get out of the break. That's still my toughest challenge, but I'm sure it'll get better with time. Expect more soon... Robert

Day 6. This one came easily when three balls fell on the break (link below.) Three fell on the next break too. I rushed the one ball on that one though, and didn't get my third two pack in three days.

I think soon I'll learn not to get complacent after the first run. I think I'm still pulling up some after getting that first one done for the day. I'll be making sure to be aware of this in the next few days. That's all for now.

Expect more soon,

Robert

My latest try came to an end Saturday after just six days completed, and nine RO's.

I see this is going to take a great deal of time management and dedication. I'm learning these traits are an area in which I'm badly lacking, not to mention my game's shortcomings, especially on the break.

I'll be making another attempt soon, and will in the mean time be following the progress of Brian McBride in his attempt. He posts updates to his blog at http://poolhallnews.com/road/. He's been doing great so far and I'll try to learn from his efforts while I take a break from ROaD.

Expect another try from me to start within a week or so, and please feel free to drop in with any comments/suggestions for me or Brian. We appreciate any feedback or tips from this community, as we both see ROaD as growing to be something more than a personal challenge just for ourselves.

EMS,

Robert

Really cool and original idea. Best of luck to you! :)

Oh, just curious; by your own rules, does it have to be a sequential run out each day, or are you going to allow combinations on the nine?

Thanks for the support, Luther.

I haven't counted combinations on the nine ball. However I have made it on the break, spotted it, then run out, and counted this as a break and run. I think this happened early on, before I switched to the template rack.

I think I'm going to use this time off to write down what I think the 'rules' for the ROaD YT Challenge should be, but I'm sure anyone who attempts it will have their own interpretation.

Expect more soon,

Robert

Maybe I missed something, but did the challenge come to an end because you didn't run out or because you didn't make it to a table that day?

Will still have to look for you next time I'm over at Park if you are there, would be nice to chat and maybe practice a little.

The challenge will likely never end, but my latest try did come up short. I did make it to the table, but I didn't leave myself enough time to accomplish a runout that day.

As I told Brian M, and as I'm sure he is quickly realizing, this task is about time management and organization as much as anything. They are skills in and of themselves, and ones in which I'm still pretty weak. Improving in these areas, just like improving my break, is going to take practice.

Anyway, I'll be giving it another go soon, and you can, as always...

Expect more soon,

Robert
