My wife's sisters (3) and their kids (14-22yrs) wanted to start a summer book club so I suggested "Running the Table: The Legend of Kid Delicious, the Last Great American Pool Hustler". I was kind of kidding, but not really. The families are located all over the country (Los Angeles, San Diego, Chicago & Fort Collins) and total maybe 15-17 people that will participate in the book club.

The oldest sister that I told about the book while visiting San Diego responded in an email that after some research, she didn't think Sid Vicious was suitable for the kids. After I stopped laughing about how she remembered who I was talking about, reminded her in an email so there would be no mistake. She read the 1st two chapters to check it out and is now recommending this as the 1st book to be read by all. She's loving it.

Nobody on her side of the family is into pool, but it's just a very well written book. I really hope that one day they do make it into a movie.

KID Vicious aka Eddie Huber or Uber which is how he spelled it to me. He is a pool player. Sid Vicious was the troubled rocker who murdered his gf and then OD'd a short time later.

Yes, she thought I said Sid Vicious since we were at the beach at the time and it was all from memory. Again, she is not involved in pool at all so that was the mainstream name she remembered from our conversation once she got home. That's why I thought it was so funny...and she didn't think the subject matter was fit for the kids.

Unfortunately, last I heard the movie deal got squashed. But it is a good book. My favorite parts are of him cutting his teeth at Cincinnati billiards.

I'll take Danny D's story over Kid "Ultimate Stall" Delicious as far as a movie is concerned.... Movies are only 2 hours long and that would only allow half of a game of 1-hole the way "Kid" worked... It may be true he busted some people and most everyone he played didn't want a rematch but I wouldn't want a rematch even if I won if I had to pack a lunch just for the wait between shots.....

it may not be suitable, there was a lot of meth smoking in there by BB. It was not glorified however.

 The good news is the book is a much faster read than Danny plays (and I'm a slow reader). I thought of recommending Danny's book, but the Kid's book is a much better read, not just a series of short stories. But loved danny's book too!

I mentioned there was drug use to Kath, but it wasn't the main part of the story line. The kids gotta learn sometime, this gives the adults a way to discuss that kind of stuff.

BB lived in Denver and Northern CO for the last 3 years, he was a trip to get to know, but recently moved away - Bob is very personable and a nice guy regardless of what really happened.

I was relieved to see that Bobby wasn't there two Sundays ago as he seems to have my number and for some reason ALWAYS brings my worst game. But then you had to be there!!:D
Sorry do hear that BB had moved. I don't think I've ever seen anybody work so hard while practicing.

He is a hard worker to be sure. Nice seeing you in Fort Collins, you should come more often. Give great lessons too.

Chicago Billiards

That would be Chicago Billiards. Named after the game, not the city.

I know Bob since he was a C Player. Always a nice guy.

Thank you for the idea! My 13 year old son is reading it. Since beginning the book, it has inspired him to play some pool.
