SALE related: What would you do...

Guerra Cues

I build one cue at a time

Hey folks,
Not going to mention any names here but I have something I would like to ask...

1 - A friend of mine sold a cue here, mint condition, straight as an arrow and this AZ'er buys it for a friend overseas.
My friend said if not happy with it within a couple of days return it.
2 - My friend sends the cue to this AZ'er in the US and apparently he did not check the cue when he got it (hard to swallow this one )
3 - This AZ'er sends the cue overseas and one week or more later the other person receives it and he says the cue it is not straight
4 - So let's say the cue did move and is not straight... Wouldn't be the AZ'er that bought the cue for the friend responsible to check for straightness?
5 - Should my friend give the money back? (both AZ'ers are well respected on AZ and outside of AZ)
6 - Forgot to say that cue now will be reaching the other AZ'er another week later and that makes 3 to 4 weeks later to reach my friend if he returns the money...

If it were me, I would tell him to return the cue. When I got it back, I would refund the money (after I inspected it for damage). Granted this all happens in a relatively short period of time. If the ultimate buyer of the cue had it for more than a couple of weeks then it would be late to claim anything, imo. I typically allow a one week period for a return (for any reason) on any cue I sell domestically. I've had one cue come back to me in the last ten years. Of course, I don't sell a lot of cues, maybe 4-6 a year.

P.S. I would not refund any shipping charges.

The middleman is just that - a middleman . n the final analysis , the transaction is between the seller (your friend) and the buyer (overseas)
Your friend made the terms " a couple of days" .
The buyer receives it "one week or more" later and is not happy.
You do not mention any delay between the buyer's receipt of goods and complaint .
If the buyer notified the seller of the defect/damage upon receipt of goods he is acting in good faith.
Unfortunately , in todays global marketplace , shipping times like these are commonplace. It is entirely possible that pressure was put against this cue while in the hold of a nice , damp container ship during transport .
Two excellent ways to prevent this in the future are to ship the cues sealed in thickwall PVC with silica gel packets inside the tube , and to use some form of express shipping.
But to get back to the point , sadly the seller must stand behind his sale.

To me if middleman brought the cue and then shipped it overseas, through multiple rapid climate changes, I don't think I'd take it back.

Its a tough choice, and since I haven't been in this situation I'm really not sure what I would do.

Agreed, it could be a factor of how the middle man packed the cue. That is another consideration. Or if he even repacked it.

No way is this the middle mans fault. you buddy should just refund the money.

if your buddy's worried about getting an air package just pick a different middle man. the cue probably moved because of moisture in the different country and will go rightback to being straight when it gets back here

This does happen. Hard to say why. I guess it could be a cue quality issue?? I'm not sure. I've been lucky. My cue went from Phillippines to OH, USA to Japan and it hasn't moved yet, but I here some go all over.

In the end, I think Jay is telling you a good way to handle it.

hay man when was in japan i'd see all sorts of beautiful traditional cues around with bright orange lizard skind wraps and stuff like that. is it still like that?

Tony, I've seen cues move in shipping and a month later they go back
to straight. If it is a top name cue this can be the case. if it a production
cue it's a loss. Did he check it before shipping?

Did your friend know that the cue was going overseas through a middleman? If not, I wouldn't refund the money. Your friend was more than fair IMO to give the original buyer the opportunity to return the cue if not satisfied. Your friends deal was with the middleman. When he chose to ship the cue overseas, to me, he accepted the cues condition and the deal with your friend was done. Sorry about the middleman's luck.
