just curious what y'all do to acclimate away from home?

I've seen players lag, hit bank shots, etc.

what do you do?

Shoot a few 3-railers to see if its playing long or short. Same thing with a few banks, hit a few to clock the speed. Flip the coin. ;)

The first thing I usually do is hit the cue ball three rails from corner pocket to adjacent corner pocket aiming at the middle diamond between the side pocket and the far corner pocket.

Yeah, basically this^^^^. That said, I will only try banking on a foreign table during a match as a last resort.

Nail on the head.

EDIT: Seems that if I "practice" for a match I get my ass kicked.

Same here. Gotta find that 3-rail spot. I also lag a few and watch for any rolling off.

I like to go 2rails out of the corner too...forward and bakkard too.

Also, paying attention to a cb with heavy spin that goes into the rail straight on...to see how much spin is taking.

Also prob worth ones while to take a look at the pocket facings. I always like it when I find out for free which ones are concave.

Test the 1,2 and 3 rail track lines to corner at pocket speed.

Once I do that, I'm as good as I'm gonna be....which is an apa 4.

On tables with narrow pockets I play some firm shots down the rail. I also look at the pocket facings very closely. Beside that, I check the speed of the rails, how much spin they take, watch out for roll offs, etc. Banks are not my top priority on a foreign table.

In addition to the rail testing described by others here, I will (if given time) try to quickly map the table roll off down the rails.

Been burned too many times by this.
