I had couple of my customers ask me if I could make some Carbide sanding mandrels. So I looked into it and now I have 60 sets on order.
Retail will be $300 for 1 set $550 for 2 sets.

All orders are custom made for any thread type the OD will range from 0.835"- 0.88". you can preorder your set at an introductory price of $465 for 2 sets, this sale is good for the first 10-15 orders only, all other orders will be at retail.
All orders for that price should be placed no later than Feb 20, 2011
I want to have them ready before Valley Forge.

How do you plan to make them match up if they are ground before you mount them on the mandrels? I think these are usually ground after being pressed on the mandrel and are actually ground together.

You are correct, the carbide I ordered is slightly oversize so I can ground them to size after they are pressed

Sanding Mandrels

Finally after a long wait, my first batch of sanding mandrels are done.
couple of minor design improvements
1. The carbide sleeve will be brazed on instead of pressed on.
2. grounding proccess. originally each piece was going to be grounded seperatly, but just to make sure that both male and female are 100% identical in thickness. After talking couple of Cue Makers, I will offer those sanding mandrels with a 1 deg or 1/2 deg taper. Originally I thought that putting a taper on a 0.8" of carbide wouldn't make much of a difference, but at the end if the customers want it, then they will get it
Attached is a picture of a 3/8"-11 pair ungrounded.

The good new I made 7 extra sets 2 x 3/8"-11 and 5x 3/8"-10.
those 7 sets are available for purchase between now and tesday morning, since that is the day that they will be grounded to size.
the Sale Price is $290 each set or $550 for 2 sets
The pre-order prices are no longer valid ,since they were set prior to establishing my piece price cost.
