I was out drinking and stopped by the bowl after hours and I ended up playing him some $20/30 a game 9 ball. He got me stuck a couple hundred and when I started making a comeback the house man (who was staking him) shut the table down for throwing the $$ on the table. It was ok when he was robbing me. We ran into each other dozens of times over the years but never played again except in tournaments. He had pretty much turned into a bar pool player and I stuck to the big tables. He could and would play on the big tables, but seemed to prefer the bars. You are right about mixing it up. He was playing someone at the Stagger Inn and they were arguing over a bad hit or something. Kenny said he might lose the argument but he would win the fight & the other guy gave in. I saw quite a bit of him in the late 80's when I was managing a mortgage co. down in San Diego and was playing around the rooms and joints down there. He was a good guy and an old time pool scuff and I was sad to hear he had passed. John Henderson
Back in the 80's we were in Odessa and had our eye on a guy who was pretty wealthy and we knew he would GO OFF.
Kenny took a couple of shots and started his drunk routine and the guy seemed to be biting on it.
Next thing you know Kenny is throwing 100 dollar bills in the air and right on the border of reallyinsulting the guy. It hit me, he wasn't faking being drunk anymore, he was hammered. Kenny got pretty loud and we were up about $1000 when the bartender had had enough and told us to get out. I don't hink He would have ever swung at me, but he was hot and it was tough getting him out of there.
We were in this white van of Kennys and I finally got him in the back where he quickly passed out. We had an appointment the nest day in a town about 50 miles away and decided since it was late anyway to head on over.
I hit the interstate and had driven about 20 miles when Kenny started SCREAMING for me to pull over. I hit the shoulder of the road and the side door flew open and Kenny dove out and rolled about 20 feet down hill and laid there, sick as a dog, throwing up all over West Texas.
About that time, you guessed it, a State Trooper pulled up behind us, Lights on to see what was going on. He asked me if I had been drinking and I told hem no and gave him a very short version of what had happened. The trooper was ok though and said, well come on and lets geet him back in the van.
We got him up the hill when Kenny fell back down again and started throwing up again. He had that funny voice and I think the trooper was getting a kick out of it. Fianlly we got him back up to the van and got him inside when Kenny strted asking the trooper if he played pool and gambled at it. I was praying that he would pass out again.
The trooper was ok though and since I hadn't been drinking I guess he tusted me to take care of him and keep him out of trouble. He started to leave when Kenny grabbed his hand and began to thank him over and over and over again. The trooper really did seem amused by it all.
He started to step away when Kenny suddenly grabbed him and said, "Officer, please be careful right there, that first step is a mother******!!!" The trooper nearly fell on his ass laughing.
Kenny was one of a kind. We had lots of fun together and always made money.
