Sarah Rousey comments on the Women's Worlds

Completely agree

I totally agree with her that the whole beauty pressure thing is absurd. If guys had to compete in pool, and be beautiful, we'd be screwed. Leave the women alone and let them shoot!

It is my opinion that these issues should be addressed directly to the WPA once she returns home.

I agree. Many of these things should not have happened if this is sanctioned as a World Championship. Just as the WPBA regulates their qualifiers and RTC's, the WPA should have restrictions to the format, length of races, methodology used to determine invites, etc. And at the very least, this information should be made available to the players before they spend a lot of money to travel across the globe to compete.

those women have the option to say no, they don't have to fall in line behind DP.

PS glad SR had the nuts to say something, regardless of the consequences. if more people stood up about the treatment they receive in events/tours, the perception about pool might change overall.....wishful thinking I suppose.

The best thing they could do is to say no until conditions become more respectable. If DP wants to make money off of them they should fall in line.

I used to manage a business and one thing I always kept in mind is that the employees are your bread and butter. They are the ones doing the work that makes you money.

At one job where I was a manager I was the only one that felt that way. Others would call them peons and wouldn't dare to do the same jobs the employees did (I however did it every day). Needless to say I was the favorite manager among employees and the least favorite among managers. Things changed quickly when I quit and within the month half of the employees hit the road as well.

For anyone suggesting that the players should have refused to play until the conditions were changed, (A) that would never happen, and (B) I'm sure CW would be delighted to have the high calibre players boycott so his Barbie doll players could stand a chance.

A) NEVER SAY NEVER. Johnnyt

Exactly, I mean why would anyone thinks he gives a sh** who plays when already in this tourney all of the top players that are there are on tables in the hallway with no table light. Meanwhile they are rotating the same 4 or 5 women on the TV table. I've watched both nights so far & between all matches on the TV table there was 1 break & run total. Yes 1 B & R total out of 7 or 8 combined TV matches. As I said before not one of these women could be a sub on my beer league team.

I watched Shanelle play a match where it took about an hour to play 2 games. In one of those games there was about 12 balls missed & most were nearly straight in. Zarah who is charlies new girl has not won a single game in 4 matches. So if anyone thinks he cares who holds out he doesn't. He will just pull another cute girl off the sideline & put a cue in her hand & call her a pool player.

If what you say is true, and I believe it is, I think I'm going to be sick. CW has lost all respect. I've only met him a couple times and did not care for him. This is the icing on the cake. What a mockery....and to call this a "World" tournament. Pathetic.

Well, it seems to me the only thing missing from this latest DP event was a Pamela Anderson v. Carmen Electra final.

I don't have time now to read this entire thread, but there are definitely lights above the tables, the refs are good ones with lots of experience, the tables compare well with what was used last week at the Philippine Open (they are AMF Gold Crown knock offs), the Sky Dome does have light coming in but no direct sunlight (nothing that should bother any player), and yes it did get wet on one table and we pulled it out of play until it got handled. The conditions are not bad to play pool. The best players keep winning their matches.

Some favortism is being shown for the TV matches, but so what. If you play well, and get to the knock out stages you will get your chance. Eveyone wants to be in the limelight, but there is only one TV table and five matches per round. Do the math!

Dude, this thread is about Sarah Rousey's comments on the tournament. Could you please post those in a different thread since they're OT? Thanks.

thanks for the explanation Jay. be nice to hear from other player or fans there watching. Obviously sarah's blog is little one sided, maybe a mor objective point of view?
sarah, i think u may be a little hot writing that right after ur match losses, which is understandable.
but my friends over there telling me that the event is really fantastic and many players are having a great time. so the two stories are really contrasting

If what Jay says in his post on another thread is accurate then I would say they are doing something right:

"We had an estimated audience of 20-25 million homes on Solar Sports and ESPN Asia. Kind of makes coverage in the USA seem miniscule by comparison."
