Sarah Rousey playing now !!!

Not to make excuses, it was just a little tough.

Sarah

That is a JUSTIFIABLE excuse. We all know how good you play.We all know the impact of those factors u mentioned on pool game especially the 9 ball game.Lack of warm up may not have significant effect on Bunting games like 8 ball or one pocket.cheers

A friend of mine has played in this tournament several times, and has noted privately that conditions are VERY VERY tough for the foreign (non-Chinese) players - not making excuses, just explaining the situation.

The cloth used in the past was some sort of Japanese billiard cloth - much faster than the usual Simonis product; and not well suited for pocket billiards (rails responded much differently, making position very hard to achieve). I believe that the local players from Taipei have similar tables in clubs nearby on which they can practice for months ahead of time; and during the tournament as well. Foreign players have no opportunity to play much on these tables except during the competition. Most pro's feel they should be able to adapt to ANY equipment; but I personally believe it is quite difficult, as the equipment is very different from any other tournament type tables.

As popular as pool is in Taiwan, it seems obvious that the choice of equipment is made to improve the chances of the local players...I have no problem with that, it is their prerogative.

Because the broadcasting is live and nonstop for about 12 hours each day, none of players can practice on the TV table.

Well, what's wrong with letting someone practice on one? they had several tv tables, they could just choose not to cut to that particular one.

or couldn't they have one practice table that was similar?

There are just too many factors that could come to play with shooting overseas. We know that you made a great effort, adjusting in itself is tough. I've shot pool in Shanghai at different pool halls and they all felt very different than what we have here in the states. I was not surprised. Just continue to do your best, we'll be here cheering for ya! :)

I knew I wasn't allowed to practice on the table that I would be playing a match but there is a practice room with two tables. We had assigned practice time, 10 minutes on the table alone. I went to my practice table at my practice time and I was told that I didn't have time to practice because my match was going to start early to keep things going for TV. If I would have known better, I would have said ok, but I want to hit one rack. When I got downstairs I was told to wait 10-30 minutes. The practice table is on the 7th floor and the TV arena is in the third basement....a long way to travel to practice and make it back. It may or may not have made a difference but it was a bit of an annoyance.

Thanks for the kind words. I have learned a lot and I think I know what to be prepared for next time.

Thanks for watching guys. It is pretty cool to have this stuff televised live! As for me, I had some serious issues with adjusting to time and conditions. That first day was awful. I can't remember the last time I played this bad. Also, I wasn't allowed to practice before my match. I didn't get to hit one ball on any of the tables. The cloth and tables are unlike anything I have ever seen. Not to make excuses, it was just a little tough.

Monica is America's only hope now! I think we are in good hands there. She is playing well but it is tough when you are taking on the Asian girls here on their home turf. It's hard to explain it.

Sarah

The post by willebetmore explains it well Sarah.

We missed you at the qualifier in Galesburg this weekend. The rail missed you.... the girls probably looked around and saw the big dog was missing and sighed a sigh of relief :D

Personally... I'm happy you got the chance to get some experience.

Regards, Jim... knows you'll analyze and grow from this experience.
