Saturday night action

Gabe, a Shining Star!

Gabesmom, thanks for the update. There's nothing better than getting the scoop from the horse's mouth, I say. :)

Here's a picture I took of Gabe Owen at the Glass City Open last year, signing autographs. He donated an hour of his time on the Beat the Champ table in the front lobby, which raised funds for the Children's Miracle Network, a charity which helps sick kids. Anybody could challenge the pro, which is Gabe, for 5 bucks to a game of 9-ball or 8-ball. If the challenger wins, they get an autographed T-shirt. Gabe is a shining star in this pool world today, and bravo to him for donating his time to this very worthy cause! :)

Looks like someone beat 'the pro', since he's signing a t-shirt. Good for them! Thanks for sharing that! Mike there at AZB has surprisingly sent me pictures also that I didn't know of. I really enjoy getting them. So nice of you to call him a 'shining star'! It's been interesting over the past 13 years since he began this trek! But we (his stepfather & I) have been behind him all the way, doing alot of 'gopher' things a young traveling player needs, (without a spouse so far) to try to help alleviate some of life's daily distractions so he can focus on all the traveling and playing. And it was just a couple of years ago that he rearranged some things so he could focus even more. And boy howdy, he's been shocking us too! But I'm glad that he's giving back whenever he can. I've always told him that God is really blessing him, and he has to remember to help others along the way if he can, use what gifts & talents he is given to benefit others.
Thanks again for sharing! I'll be watching AZB and this forum again and especially at the next tournament time!!

Did you see the match between Danny and Bustamante in the tournament?
I was timing his shots and he averaged 1 minute between shots. That is a lifetime to an opponent and the fans. They should put a shot clock on him every time he plays. ....

I tried to watch Kid Delicious Friday but after the first 3 games I just couldn't take it anymore. I went and watched Charlie Bryant's match against Trevor Smith. It turned out to be a good decision.

Corey & Scott played that set for 3 dimes. Corey won &
then they started playing for 500 a game . 2 to 2 when
I went to bed.

Well Gabesmom.....as we left the room Gabe was up a game. They have been going at it for almost 4 hours. No major boo boos on either part just some great safety play by both. I am sure we will wake up and it will be like last year when Kid D and TOny Chohan were still playing as they tore down the tables around them, remember that JAM?

As far as Hagar he did not play but Jeanette is playing around down in the other room.

Scotty Frost and Corey playing 1 pocket (next to Gabe and Kid D) 6 ahead not sure for what. Corey was up 4 games when we left.

Tony W is upstairs on the 7ft. playing 9 ball 10 ahead, i think the guys last name is Smith.

Other than that all is quiet..........ANother year in the books, cant wait for next year.

...Scotty, Phoebe, Mika and another guy were playing doubles and they moved to the action room.

So you must have been of the railbirds who were still awake. The guy lying on the chairs kept snoring. LOL

To clarify for others, it was scotch doubles, Phoebe Choy and Scott Frost vs. Mika and a guy I heard was from Ohio whose name was Adam. How did you like his cue. I don't think I've seen one like that.. :D

That was kinda fun to watch. Phoebe shoots good. I left about 11.

The other guy is Aaron Czetli from Akron Ohio. He operated worldpool and backs many players (Neils,Troy Frank,Corey,Dee Adkins,Chris Szuter, etc.) He has a lot of gamble and he usaully will generate action at Fiddlestix in Canton Ohio. The cue he uses looks like a barber pole.

Aaron's cue

> I go to Akron and visit my grandparents on occasion, and have seen him and the striped cue several times at what used to be Starcher's (now Doc's Action Billiards South) on Arlington Road. Last time I saw him,he was practicing with Corey, and racking a lot. Is he the same Aaron that had the 286 run at 14.1 they used to advertise at the now-defunct Diamond Billiards out on Manchester Road? Tommy D.

He is more of a bar box player. He beat a solid wheelchair player on the bar box out of 80 large two years ago.
