Say You Received This Shaft . . .

Is this new shaft from a Top-tier cuemaker good enough to keep?

This is one of the few polls that I've been on the correct side of the voting.
In fact I would of gone the other way if it wasn't for the annoyance factor based on the location of mark.
I have shafts with sugar marks, but close to the collar, not in my line of sight like this one.
This is kind of unusual, especially for a cue worth over 2K.

You know, if you'd learn to free up your mind
for once in your life
you'd see that the grain pattern inside
the grain pattern near the grain pattern inside
the other grain pattern is
actually a picture of Jesus
framed by a blueberry pancake once served at
St. Alphonso's Pancake
Restaurant to Frank Zappa.
And you're dissatisfied?

okay, I'm staying out of my thread until more votes come in but I felt compelled to come on just for a minute to say that is some funny stuff just above. :grin-square::grin-square::grin-square:

thank you, slim.

pls keep voting.

I prefer matched shafts in that price range. So no, I would not be happy with one of the shafts looking like this. At this point in cue making and collecting there is a fairly well known grading system for appearance and grain and this one would be a C-grade and only go on the sub-$100 cues from the factory that makes Fury cues.

I do not wish to color anyone's opinion so I will make this as vanilla as possible with just 2 options.

The reasons for choosing one over another will be all yours and you can elaborate on it in the thread if you wish - after casting your vote.

Here's the scenario/question:

You purchased a brand new cue you paid over $2k for made by a TOP-tier cuemaker and the shaft pictured below was one of the two you received.

Are you happy with it and will use it / collect it as it is?

-or-

Are you not happy with it and consider it unacceptable?

thanks in advance for weighing in. :)

I don't mind dark shafts,or growth rings but island marks
in my opinion are crap specially that high on the shaft.Marks like that
tend to come with lower grade maple shafts from all the shafts I've ever owned
or seen.I'd be pissed.

ps.Even the tip looks sort of mushroomed but that could be from the pics.
You should be given another shaft with a price-tag like that imo.Goodluck

Nothing should ever be sent out that can be criticized.
You should have received a call stating the shaft was not 100% and it's being redone...thanks for
understanding.
I would not like that mark on a house cue.

You're advertised a super hot, blind date - thinking you're getting a Scarlett Johannson, and you get the Butt of the Ball? No brainer Brian. I know you'll approach it correctly. I hope it's made right for you! GL.

bump

thanks for the input so far guys.

let's see if we can get to 100 votes total.

I am beginning to see what appears to be a pattern though, at 68 - 7. ;)

I'm probably not alone in thinking that you wouldn't have even posted this poll unless you already knew what you wanted the results to be...

Really...what did you expect for $2k? You gotta spend $4k+ for A grade shafts! All joking aside, call cue maker and he should take care of it....that's unacceptable wood.

In all honesty the mark will not bother me beside who in the heck looks at that part of the shaft while in there shot routine they should be looking at the CB/ tip where that part of shaft should be kinda blurry.

Reading my posts means you consent to my incorrect spelling and poor typing skills.

Please forgive stupid newbie question.

I'm guessing that big white mark is the 'sugar mark' .... But not sure what that means .... I understand the cosmetic issue, but does it have anything to do physically with the shaft ?

If it is so egregious .... And so undesirable ..... How could a big buck cue maker have missed that ?

Still learning .... :)

^Sugar marks are meerly a cosmetic issue. It is a natural part of the wood and does not affect the playability. However, when it is directly interfering with your eyes as you shoot, it sort of becomes a playability issue. A small one...just turn the cue until you don't see it, or ignore it. One this size is probably pretty hard to ignore though.
