I don't think $20 gate fee for the day is high at all. It is very reasonable, in my opinion. Also, I'm not sure where folks are shopping, but $30 for a T-shirt with a logo or pool-related print is the norm. It is not high either. Plus, you don't have to pay for shipping and handling.
We try to support pool-related industry members, and I but T-shirts, caps, sports jerseys, et cetera, to suppose our pool industry members. I wish BCA members (industry members) would do the same and support pool players. That's what folks should be upset about, not Allen Hopkins' once-a-year pool extravaganza.
Yes, Valley Forge was THE BEST venue, but what is special about Super Billiards Expo has always been there is something for players of all caliber, young, old, seasons, amateur, and action junkies. The vendors are great places to shop, and you get to see many of the pros. This year, Darren Appleton will be in the house, along with Jayson Shaw and many others.
And also, in my opinion, Hopkins' always gets THE BEST trophies. One year, Keith McCready and Shannon Daulton came to the finals of the Pro Am, and between frames, the three of us were outside smoking cigarettes. Shannon and I both were saying we didn't care about the money as much as the trophy. We both wanted that trophy. Keith wasn't into the trophy and wanted the dough. When the dust settled. Shannon won that beautiful trophy, and to this day, he will agree it's his favorite.

We are not going to SBE, haven't for a few years, but the main attraction for us was not the tournament. It was the action table. That's where the fun starts for us.
