Schmelke Bacote vs Players Sneaky Pete?

I cant speak to the schmelke, but I am a fan of the players sneaky pete. I bought one a few months ago to use as a loaner during league. I got it from Seyberts and had them put a kamui black med on it. For the money I think it is a great cue. It has a good feel/balance. If you are thinking of getting this as a starter cue or a bar beater it is a great choice! I have not heard many bad comments about schmelke's so I doubt you would disappointed with either cue.

i wouldnt go with the schmelke cue with the big brass joint.

call schmelke directly and have them make a custom one for you.

I have several Schmelkes in my collection and they are great hitting cues.
The fact that I was buying from a company in Wisconsin who had been around awhile made sense and made my decision easy.

I make a few cues myself but for the money that Shmelke charged for these I felt like I could not compete. Someday I will make my two boys there own cue but for now they shoot with these.

I also have heard good things about Players cues, so like the member above me stated for the money they will both work well.

Check out Schmelke's web site......it is great.

stupid question... i see a lot of Wisconsin love on these forums lol why is that?

Why do you think you need a Kamui tip on your first cue?

- Well in a previous thread, somebody recommended a players sneaky pete with a kamui soft tip
- I've also read somewhere that 90% of the shot is in the shaft and the tip
- I've been using my friends' cues whenever we go out to the pool hall and there's something about their tips I don't like and they don't hold chalk very well even after being sanded.. they are cheapo tips, I figure might as well get a kamui lol

Ever since I found out cheese actually bubbles out of the ground in Wisconsin I have been a big fan.

Many cue makers have there head-quarters in that neck of the woods, maybe thats the reason.

I am a fan of the big brass joint but not on my playing cue. My break cue has the large joint and that cue really busts the rack. I don't know if it has anything to do with the joint or not.

Let us know what you go with.

Lots of great custom cuemakers have used Schmelke full splice blanks for their cues. Mike Bender comes immediately to mind for his sneaky petes.

Schmelke Sneeky Pete Cues

I own two Schmelke Sneeky Pete Cues. They are both very well made (excellent materials and great finish).

I purchased my Schmelke's from The Billiard Warehouse. What I liked about doing business with them was being able to ask questions (via email) and to choose exactly what cue and shaft options I wanted.

As an aside: As I've gotten older, my preference has changed from using a 22 oz cue to one that is much lighter. To that end, I purchased Schmelke's R1R 15 oz cue, and it's really very sweet. I just love the control that cues allows.

The fact that Schmelke is made in our own country is, for me, a very big plus.

IMHO, you'll be very happy with a Schmelke product.

Which joint did you get?

Joint #4 on their website http://www.schmelkecue.com/requirements.php?osCsid=t9khbv4hd4o6f22m4el518bdm7
good choice?

here's the rest of the specs - 19 oz, le pro tip, 13mm shaft.. i wanted a 12.75mm cause i have small hands but it would've taken an extra 2 weeks and my parents are going to be in boston next weekend... i did not want to ship that cue across the border to toronto... shipping, brokerage, and customs would have been brutal... in the end i prolly won't even notice .25 of a mm, and i play with an open bridge anyways...

I think you made a good decision based on your budget. The wood in cues always looks better in person. The photos used on most cue web sites are not very good. The joint you picked is a favorite with a lot of players. It is the same joint I have on my main player.
Post back and give us some feed back once you play with it for awhile.

I just got my cue this morning :D I'll need to get to the pool hall soon can't wait to try it out.. there is one thing that concerns me though.. The part where the joint goes in, in the shaft, they just threaded the wood.. I didn't really pay attention to the pic when I chose it, but won't the pin eventually wear down the thread over time from screwing/unscrewing my cue?

No worries dude, many custom cue makers make cues just like that. It's more old school, but some folks like the feel of the big pin and the wood to wood hit. You will have no problems with that joint. My Carmeli has the same type joint, and I'm pretty sure I paid a few bucks more than you. Enjoy... Schmelke is a very good, solid cue...

Nope. I have a custom Dan Dishaw that I've had for about 17-18 years, played with most every day and no problem. Very common joint.

I'm thinking about ordering the Schmelke M020 Bocote, I would like to see pictures of yours and what you think of it, haven't decided on the joint yet.
