Schmelke Sneaky Pete W/BEM

Would it not be easier just to have them email you pictures of some of their blanks, and allow you to chose which one you like best? Or is it something you can't chose from with just pictures? They may not offer pictures anyways though.

That's how I picked mine. David sent me a photo of all the completed ones he had, and I selected from that. He'd probably do the same for blanks, though I guess they'd have to shellac em to really see much.
Super happy with mine, $125 for a Rosewood / Plain Maple, 18-pin. Best part was, first one came with funny buzz in hit, like a loose ferrule, and a little uneven points; called David, he took it back without question and built me one from scratch, within a couple weeks. Good quality, great service.
But now reading the OP, wish I'd spent a few more bucks and picked my own woods. Now I have a reason for another cue. Need one like a hole in the head...

Dang, now knowing that I'd have picked the darker coco... if they even keep some with BEM made up?... Never hurts to ask questions does it.

I didn't catch the taper question earlier, the shaft taper seems fine to me. The pics may have some illusion to them but it's right on target with a custom I have.

I also do not think the taper in the shaft looks that good. It looks kind of short to me. I like a very long taper in shafts. I heard that their joint is a little thicker then normal, so it will not fit perfectly flush on other production shafts (like an OB shaft or Predator shaft to name a few examples). I do like that Schmelke cues gives you so many custom options. It is nice that you can give them a call, and order your cue to be custom made to your specs. Like if I wanted a 62 inch sneaky (31/31 inch split), with a Bocote butt into Premium BEM, and a black phenolic joint and black phenolic at the end of the butt, then they could probably do that order for me. And if I were to tell them that I like the cue butt to be slimmer then normal, then they could help me with that too. All of that may only cost around $200, but I do not know.

They have different tapers.

Why you running down the man's cue? You don't like the Birdseye, you don't like the taper, why even post that crap?

To the OP, nice cue, enjoy!

Here's an identical R040 Cocobola. No upgrades except the trim ring, linen and a Moori Medium. I think it's a great cue for $165 delivered. I shoot a Schon 314/2, but keep this on hand for visitors so they can shoot with an extremely nice cue.

Things change over time. I took 3 guests out for dinner last weekend. Just over $225 with c. 22 - 25% tip.

Your new cue will out-play you forever, and will last that long also.

I would suggest that your maple looks much better than mine.

^^^^^^Agreed. Shut the h*ll up already. We all know you like (nice long pro taper) and hope the cue (rolls straight together and apart) and know that you (overuse parenthesis) .

OP ---great looking Schmelke and they all hit great. Mine does.

Now I have a reason for another cue. Need one like a hole in the head...

Like a snail needs airbrakes. 1='s 3. The price is right. I was disappointed with the bottom cue's PurpleHeart but decided to keep it.

ROGER that!

frequently some hair brain critic tries to knock
people with high dollar custom cues

i think this little cue right here is a perfect example of a cue that
can do anything that a pool cue is expected to do as far as playing pool

i would be happy to own a few of these for those rare time when i find myself without a cue

i would not hesitate to buy ,own or play with a cue like this

however,i have a weakness for a beautiful custom cue from time to time

nice cue here,if you want your money back,i will take this cue off your hands

Thank you for the offer! My skin is way to thick to get skinned up on a comment, didn't think he meant anything bad there. ;) everybody has different tastes and they don't always come across as they intend. I seem to be turning into a bit of a cue w**** lol I was a game call maker and guess I'm a little funny about the figured woods. Since the Ivory ban I've been using the Ivory I have to put ferrules on a few of my cues. I'm actually thinking about trying some warthog tusk ivory for this one. Heck if it isn't any good I'll just change it out. Put this on a custom sneaky I've been playing with...

everything i said was a compliment
i had not noticed a short taper, but I prefer a short taper too

i can not imagine a better cue for less money

Dean, I don't think the OP's comment was directed at your compliment. :)

Nice job on the ferrule, is that the warthog tusk?

No, I haven't done one with warthog yet. I have a small warthog tusk I'm hoping will be big enough. Thanks guys!

Now that is interesting considering that more than one on the AZBilliards forum has mentioned that SCHMELKE's joints are usually thicker than 0.840.
Dave

that's because Schmelke has more than one joint, they have at least 5 that I recall. And they are not all the same, thus folks just assume they are ??

But a 3/8-10 Schmelke will take an OB 3/8- 10 pin like butter on bread :)

I'm almost in need of a new car cue. I think the next cue will be a Schmelke sneaky pete.

It hit's well, I played around with it at the house yesterday and will take it to league play tonight. I asked about the BEM upgrade in an email then called to place my order. Highly figured wasn't in the conversation just $35 for BEM upgrade. I have no complaints on it at all. Some of the other sneaky's that were posted were a darker red coco (this is more orange) it's just preference no deal breaker. The tip is one of theirs... I may try one of the SIB's I've seen posted here or put a Moori on (what I have on my other cues)

The cocobolo will darken a little over time... Still a great looking sneaky Pete ata great price.

Reminds me of 20 years ago, when I could have bought a bunch of new Tim Scruggs sneakies for $145 each!
