1) how do you pronounce schmelke?

2) what would be a better value: schmelke SP for $95 or a low-end mcdermott for $111?

Sh-mel-key

I don't think you'd be better off with one vs. the other...they would both be fine choices for the price range...

On pc. of advice: get a cue with a joint type that you can easily fit a replacement shaft to.

McDermott has alot more options available for other shafts for upgrades.
Between their I-shafts, Predator, OB-1, Tiger, Universal, etc, plus all of the Cuemakers out there that use the same joint/pin, you have alot more available to upgrade your Low end McDermott into a better cue.
just my .02 worth-

what does that have to do with anything? u can get all those shafts for schmelkes too. just tell them not to put their custom joint on it and use something more common instead.

I'd also like to add that you could put something in the wanted section of AZ and what you are willing to spend and see what kind of offers you can get. People here can be very generous and almost always helpful. Of course if you have played with either or both and you really like one go ahead and get that cue, but I'd check out other options on here too instead of maybe settling for something.... Unless like I said you picked up one of those two and thought it fit you perfectly

I know the pronounciation!
