Schon cue value?

Hi,

I have no idea about cues in general. Someone in my league is selling this cue. I wonder how much it's worth. Can someone here give me a ballpark figure? I don't know the model or how old it is, but I could find out (I'm not currently in possession of the cue). It's leather wrapped, and the butt is chipped/delaminated a little bit all the way around. Other than that - it's in good condition.

Ill offer about $100.00 for it. Let me know ASAP, offer good for 10 minutes, after that I will be forced to reduce my offer.
 
A new Shon with the design and leather wrap like that one would be about $500-600 I would think. With the finish issue on the bottom 1/2 of new price would be fair. Just make sure the cue is straight and does not make any odd sounds when played with.

I would suggest much lower $400.

It's a CX28 model. I don't know what retail was but would guess in the $700 plus range. If the chipping on the cap is the only damage and it's straight, I would say $400 would be a very good deal if you're looking to buy it.
 
I would think NEW that Schon would list close to $1100. on the used market 5-600 . GL Jim
 
Thanks to everyone for your input... I have no idea what it's worth and neither does the seller. The original owner (also a league player), said he paid somewhere close to $1000(?) if I remember correctly. The original owner thinks it's easily worth $500. Current owner just doesn't use it or want it. I don't think anyone is trying to inflate the price or value, I think they just either don't really know or care that much one way or the other. Current owner is asking $350. I don't "love" it, and if it's not a screaming deal, I think I will keep my $350.

At first I estimated it at 7-800 but then I noticed that the Shons in that price range had inlays in the buttcap as well as points. This cue is a level under those. I'm not talking LIST price, but the price you can get it for at Seyberts or something, I guess street price instead of list price.

It should not be close to 1k new, he either paid full retail or above it or is just making up a number or giving the full list price on it and not what was actually paid. Most cues sell quite a bit under their "retail" price. For 350 it's an OK buy, for 300 it's a pretty good deal for a Schon of that level with a good shaft.

It's not worth nearly $500 though, it would be fairly close to that new.

I had some guy in a bar tell me his lower end McDermott was $500, no points with a G shaft. It's cool to say stuff like that to people that don't know any better, but you look silly doing that to someone that knows better.

Thanks again - I really appreciate it. I'm gonna pass. It's neither a "cue I love" nor "a steal". I have a good enough cue for the amount of playing i'm doing and my skill, and I "need" to buy a motorcycle :)
