i was just looking for info about schon cues. i heard a little about them but nothing to sold. any info would be appreciated. ...........

While I cannot offer anything objective, I love mine. I have a pechauer sneaky pete and a schon. The schon has a very solid hit, and is stiffer compared to the pechauer. I have only positive things to say about my schon -- the price is steep, but I recived mine as a chrismas gift from my parents!

I bought a cue off them about 4 months ago so here is how I rate them. Keep in mind that I haven't tried all that many cues so my experience is somewhat limited. You might want to do a forum search, I am guessing topics like this have come up in the past.

Customer service: extremely good. They delivered within a day of what they estimated, were very helpful on the phone when ordering.

Workmanship: Again, very fine work. No complaints whatsoever.

Playability: This is very subjective, but I find that Schons have a great deal of power. It took me a little while to get my speed control back.

They are a very good cue, I doubt you will be disappointed.

Schon are excellent cues, I have hit with a few of them. My only objection to them is their price. For the same money you can have a custom cue made to your specifications that will play equally as well, or better. Personally I prefer to have something that no one else has, such as my custom Jacoby, there is not another one like it and at under $800.00 it was a steal. If you do decide to go with the Schon, Im sure you will not be disappointed they are excellent cues.

Schon are excellent cues. In my opinion, they are probably the best production cue. Not only do they hit great but Evan Clarke has some great designs. Check out my website if you want too see some real nice looking Schons.

I used to have a schon and sold it, because I was in need of money at the time. I sure do miss it! There are certain power strokes I haven't been able to duplicate with other sticks. I will eventually own one again.

I had a Schon STL 7 for 6 years that I recently auctioned off after purchasing a new custom cue from Dale Perry. The workmanship on the Schon was superb and it was a very handsome cue. In terms of playability, the Schon was very stiff and delivered a very solid hit. The only knock i had against the cue was that I felt it was too butt-end heavy and I never felt I could get the action I desired from it IMHO...

I agree with dday that it's definitely worth investigating a custom cue made to your specs for the same money...

Mine isn't butt heavy at all. I removed the weight bolt entirely(was only 1/4 oz. aluminum) and it still weights 19.75 oz. The balance point is 19 1/2" which is quite forward. I get action with it very easily.
Pooljunkie...are you starting to get the impression that you should get a Schon by now?

I also removed the weight bolt from my Schon to see if that would help... the bolt was so light that i didn't see a dramatic difference in how the cue played so i just put it back in... my cue weighed 19.5 oz and the current cue Im playing with is 18.5 so maybe I just needed to use a lighter stick

I've owned ALOT of different Schon cues. I used to sell them about 11-12 years ago. I had an SP-25 forever. They're excellent cues, but if I were in the market for a cue in that price range, I would buy a custom cue. Schon is THE best production cue made. The price is so high now on alot of their cues you can buy a nice custom cue for the price.

FWIW,

Jim

I've owned 3 Schons, starting with an old R-14 from the early 80's, an STL -11 and and STL-7 (my current primary playing cue) and I still have them all, can't part with any of them. I love the stiff, solid hit and the way they play.

I understand you can get a custom for the price, but unless you have a design or a cuemaker you KNOW you really can't live without, I'd go with a Schon. JMHO

P.S. - Here's a link to a Schon R-14; mine is blue veneers and trim where this one is tan. http://www.azbilliards.com/vbulletin/upload/showthread.php?t=183&highlight=Chucklez65+cues

i do want to thank everyone for their responses. as far as paying for a custom cue over a schon i would like to say that i currently shot with a new custom dale perry cue, which i got about 5 mths ago. the reason i am looking and asking is because while the cue i have is awesome i still have some feeling in the back of my head that i have shot with a better cue. you can say im looking for my magic cue but i think i am one the right path with checking out schon. but i still am open to comments...........

lol pooljunkie... i just did the complete opposite of what you did... i recently sold me Schon and got a custom DP around a month ago... we could have just traded cues!!!

i think all of us pool players are searching for the "perfect" cue and it's definitely one of the cases where it's in the eye of the beholder...good luck on your quest and i hope the Schon works out for you if that's what you decide on

Hi Pooljunkie,

I bought a Schon Cue roughly fourteen years ago. I still play with it every day. Evan Clark "customized" it about five years ago. When I ran into him at the BCA's, he remembered the cue exactly! I've tried many other cues. Some hit the same, some different. For the money, you can not find a better hitting cue! Some say buy one from a custom cue maker. What guaranties you a better hitting cue? If it is a "one off" for you, why is it better? I've hit with very expensive Schons. I also own (for ten years) one of the least expensive Schons and use it as a break stick. There is no difference in the hit. If you want a "custom" appearing cue, then spend, spend, spend. If you want a great playing cue whose appearance may be vanilla, buy a Schon. You will not regret it! Best of all, if you don't like it, there are lots of people out there looking for a used one.
