Schon ferrule material?

A buddy of mine had a schon ltd 1504 in today and asked if I knew what kind of ferrule it was. I had no idea.

Its white and kind of translucent. Has a weave to it. A bit courser than fine weave phenolic but not as course as course weave. Not sure if the picture will help but its all I could get on my phone.

It's shame they don't use the older yellowish kind.
I still have two of them.

I was told my mcdaniel had ivorine 3 on it and it didn't have any weave in it.

I got a new Schon a couple weeks ago. The shaft that came with it has Ivorine 4 on it.

My guess is the reason Evan eventually changed from Micarta to the stuff that looked close to but nicer than Ivorine 3 was he simply ran out of Micarta.

I also suspect the reason they are now using Ivorine 4 is the same reason,they ran out of the old stuff. Tommy D.

I got a new Schon a couple weeks ago. The shaft that came with it has Ivorine 4 on it.

I really like the Iv4 if used as for best results. The material is quite heavy and 1" capped ferrules are not going to have any LD properties. If used in a shorter length, uncapped, LD style ferrule with a large ID then its wonderful. The "hit" is excellent and the material is the strongest most durable ferrule material ever offered. I'm sure Schon picked it so they have no worries of future cracked ferrules.
Also...its so strong that it also makes an excellent j/b tip...pic below.:smile:
