Schon tips. What are they made of?

Anyone know?

Schon says they're proprietary, but do they actually make them at Schon? If they make them, does anyone know which tip is the most similar to the Schon tip? I had heard they're buffalo tips of some sort, so would a sumo buffalo tip be close since it's also rating "very hard."

Possibly. It's also possible that Tweeten makes them for them, as they makes custom tips for specific customers.

You're correct. Their theory is that leather from these areas gives the shooter more balls.

It's a good question. My experience has been that Schons come with the very best tips I've ever played with. There was a time, when I owned a Schon, I actually sent the shafts back to get re-tipped by them.

they come in two flavors, brown (less hard) & black (very hard) but are getting harder & harder to find. The brown ones play like schon tips IMO.
 
Seybert's offers these as a "tip option" when you configure any cue. However, if you just click on the "cue tips" in the accessories tab they do not show up as available. Maybe these can gotten through them, although not advertised? Hope this is of some help.
 
I bought a bunch of the Schon tips several years ago from Seyberts. I'm not sure if they can still sell just the tips if they're not attached to a Schon shaft any longer.
