I used to own a schon ltd...and have hit with a few mezz the ec-7 and also own the pb-II.

Mezz has such high quality cues out now..it's not even a choice. I would probably never go back to schon simply because the Mezz cues are crafted so well. everything from their united joints to their ld shafts.

They hit amazingly well.

And the older schon's made by bob runde play so much better than the one's put out by evan clarke. A thousand dollars can get you a fairly large Mezz cue.

I am gonna to order a Mezz, hope it will bring me a surprise.

my friend's Mezz EC7-W was received. It first gave me a very impressive solid and firm feel on the hit.

Other than that, the outlook is very simple, no fancy design, all based on the polishing wooden partens.

I have both, mezz and schon, mezz EC-7 WD6 and Schon sp 1407 I like to switch between them.
But I think mezz have more quality, the feeling is near near a custom cue.

Always with the WD-700 shaft of course!!

Both cues you mentioned are very good quality cues.

Just wondering, are the points on the forearm of Mezz cues inlaid or spliced ?

i think most of them are inlayed. might be different with a few models (Ta models and exceed) they also offer a custom order option but i've never heard of anyone in the states using it

I got a new Schon, everything about it is beautifully made; finish, wrap, etc. I say it's as nice as the Mezz cues I've seen. Plays very very nicely, and made in the land of the Harley, the Hemi, the Les Paul, and the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. Home team still can run with any of them.

I have played a little with a shon was a well made cue but the hit was just a little too stiff for me. I personally like a mezz cue better. I played about the same amount of time with a mezz zzsp with wd700 shaft in a 12.80mm size it had much softer hit through the middle than the shon. The shon was a very nice cue don't get me wrong but the mezz was just as nice & played a whole lot better for me.

i have owned some examples of both, incl. newer and older schons. definitely mezz for me.

for those of you who have not tried a mezz cue, just pick one up and you might be surprised.

hi torqiet, how would you describe the hit/feel of Schon since I have chances to try Mezz only which gives me the solid and stiff feeling.

Generally speaking, schons are less stiff and firm as compared to Mezz cues, and the 'feel' is not as refined.

however, i have tried older schons that feel similar to Rundes, and those play nice too. (one of my favorite hitting cues is a Runde)

overall, i would say Mezz trumps Schon in terms of craftsmanship, quality and consistency of their cues.

just my .02 cents worth.. maybe some others would like to chime in with their thoughts?

I have owned both cues and prefer schon over mezz. I havnt played with any mezz shafts other than wd700 but I thought there wasnt any stiffness to the mezz. I hated it

My Schon has nerves in it...I tried a Mezz once, not a fair comparison, though, since it had a LD shaft (which I hate--can't feel anything through them), and I only shoot with stock shafts. I've shot with Runde Schons and newer ones, and never met a Schon I didn't love. This whole debate is fun, but it really is subjective...you love what you know!
