Doc, I don't consider myself a true cue afficianado, but l do like my well chosen collections of semi-cheapo cues.
When I was repairing/filling the points (which look perfect now, even with a jewelry scope) I noticed that both the blue and black veneers on this cue are double veneers. The red is a single veneer. The gloss of the finish now hides the veneer detail compared to when the cue had no finish but the double veneer is very evident with a scope. Here's some pictures that just barely expose the glue lines between the double veneers. I tried to fiddle with the color/contrast ect. but nothing really improved the glue line detail. Hopefully, they will be evident enough on the unretouched pictures to affirm my observations:

My suggestion would be to take a 25X jewelry scope to the veneers if anyone has an old Heubler like this and the glue lines become pretty evident with inspection.
