Scott Lee Lesson Review

How would you rate this versus taking the class. I am also thinking about taking a lesson as soon as I get a table in the basement, which I hope will be done in the next few months. By the way, where do you play in MD? Maybe we can get together a shoot a couple of racks. Always good to meet new people.

Two weeks ago I had a lesson at my home from Scott Lee. I wanted to wait a couple weeks to see if the lesson would pay off before giving my review. Scott is very professional and gave me a call the day before the lesson to let me know that his schedule changed and he could start my lesson earlier if I wanted. I am glad he did because as the lesson progressed I could see I wanted to get as much time learning from him as I could.

Scott arrived on time, he set up his camera and we began right away. He had me shoot some balls while recording my stroke from all different angles. We went upstairs and reviewed my stroke on the big screen. Right away he explained the problem in my stroke that was holding me back from improving. The muscles in my arm were tensing up, which was causing me to not complete a full stroke. Instead I would drop my elbow on some strokes to get the power I needed to move the cue ball.

Scott helped me with my stroke by addressing the cue ball with my tip very close to it, placing my back hand in the proper position, taking deliberate/consistent practice strokes, and most importantly coming to a natural finish with my stroke. The new stroke was quite uncomfortable at first but got easier as the lesson progressed.

We then worked through two stroke drills and a speed drill. These drills were done with verbal cues to help "train" my new stroke. We worked on a stop shot drill that looks easy but is a lot more difficult than it appears. Scott then showed me how to draw the ball with a very soft stroke and aiming extremely low on the cue ball. We finished up with a position drill.

The last hour he let me ask what I wanted to work on and I asked for help on some cut shots that I had been having trouble with. He introduced me to the Supplemental Aiming Method to help with those shots.

In two weeks my game has improved immensely. I have so much more confidence in my stroke. I get a lot more action on the cue ball with a lot less effort. In my eight ball league I destroyed the players from the first place team last week. In the straight pool league my matches are a lot closer. Instead of me losing by 50 points I am staying within a few points of my opponent.

I definitely recommend Scott Lee as an instructor. The lessons are worth every penny and aren't that expensive to begin with. You can read all the books and watch all the videos you want but having a good instructor will help you improve much faster. Feel free to PM me if anyone has any questions.

Taking the 3-day class cannot compare with a single private lesson. You're exposed to a LOT more information, and in the classroom set-up, you are going through an extensive workbook. The class lasts three full, 8-hr days, for a reason...because we NEED that much time, to get everything across to our students. A private lesson with me will accomplish a lot, in whatever time you wish to allot, but pool school is the ultimate instructional venue.
For anyone interested, we still have two slots open for the Holland, MI pool school, scheduled for November 10, 11, & 12!

I'm the Reason for the Schedule Change

I'm the guy who had to cancel my lesson with Scott. I was sick as a dog and knew I couldn't drive the 4 hrs round trip and still be able to get something out of the lesson. Sounds like you were able to make the most of the time....

Scott I'd like to say again that I'm sorry I had to cancel, I was really looking forward to it, and hope that next time you're out this way you'll give me a call.

MBM...No problem with that. I already have you on my schedule for the next time I can make it out your way, which may be in three weeks, as a part of my quick swing through NE (upstate NY, VT, NH, MA, & CT), and NYC/NJ. :D I'll be calling you soon.

lesson

I had a lesson with Scott a few weeks ago and it has really helped me a bunch. We working on getting the kinks out of my stroke and establishing a consitent preshot routine. I've found that my concentration on the aimpoint is much more concise and I stay "in the shot" better. I'm looking forward to doing more when we can.
