Scotty Townsend's Proposition Shot

Was gonna try today

It took me about 15 tries on a 6x12-foot snooker table last night. I thought I'd try it, and the triple-shimmed GC was busy.

After making the kick on the snooker table a couple of times, I tried this: put the cue ball on the corner of the D and a ball on the black spot (down by the other end rail). Cut the ball straight into the corner, but not the easy one! If you put the cue ball on the green spot, cut the object ball to the left. If you find someone willing to shoot this shot, offer them no more than 20 tries. I'll try it in 30.

I found my spots that would get me very close on the virtual table last night. I could reset each time and make the kick over and over. Have to see how that translates to the real table.

The nearest pool hall is fifteen miles up the road and I don't have a home table anymore. I got to the pool hall, parked, and reached behind me for my case . . . reached behind me for my case . . . reached behind me for my case . . . reached behind me for my case . . .

Yup, that is where I got stuck at! First time I have ever done that, probably won't be the last. Scummy weather today and driving an hour and a half to practice two hours didn't have much appeal so I just came home and called it a day. Going out of town to see a doctor tomorrow, I'll throw my bar stick in the truck just in case. By the time the doc's got through with me last time it was a percocet kind of day which doesn't do a thing for precision shooting!

this is the only gaff shot I would bet on myself shooting. I made this in 2 tries for the Monk a few years ago. I have seen Russell Parsons shoot it from CB "A" and make it one out of 4 or 5 tries. Remember, I'm left handed, the Monk didn't see this til I made it.

Brooklyn Butch wanted to bet $100 he could make a shot similar to this and he negotiated for a long time then he and Amir agreed to bet with him getting 20 tries. Brooklyn Butch stepped up and made it his first try. Everyone had a good laugh except for Amir.

from what ive been told scotty t is a champion. this post gave me a new shot to try. make a spotshot without hitting a rail.i gotta try that.

That is a pretty easy shot.

NY Joe is talking about a shot that I had actually seen before played by Jack White in his exhibitions. It always got a good crowd reaction. As he said, only two or three shots and the cue ball hits no cushion -- either before or after -- to make the spotted ball in the side.

I was at the DCC this year and Justin Cone was trying to get action with this prop bet: Justin was willing to bet that he could put the cueball in his mouth, and fire it out of his mouth and draw off of an object ball further than anyone could draw off of the same ball using a cue. There was a whole bunch of us wanting to all donate like 20 each just to see him do it. We never could get enough since Justin only wanted to do it betting 300.

What was funny too was that someone in the crowd was like "Well how many tries are you gonna take on this?" and Justin looked at him like he was from Mars and said, Tries? ONE TRY! He later told us that he never miscues from his mouth (lmao) and that the women see him do this and are very intrigued at action he can get on the cueball with his mouth/tongue. ;-)

When Scotty pulled up after getting jarred, was the money posted? how did that get resolved?
If i remember right scotty was very absolute about quitting the set. I can't remember what he said to jerry but it was obvious that the set was over no questions asked. Like i said jerry didn't say a peep. It was obvious what just happened. Jerry came from the old school. If you couldn't beat those champions: you drugged them. Amarillo 25-30 years ago had alot of action. Mostly shortshop action but there was alot of bookies and druggies with cash. Jerry would beat all of those guy all of the time, but when a champion came through he would get a huge spot and bust them or if he couldn't get there he would jar them. I heard he had it down to an art. His dosage wouldn't always hit the players so hard and the would continue to play and get beat. if i remember right scotty was sick for the next 2 days after that episode. his experience told him that something was wrong. Like i said earlier jerry and scotty sat at the bar for hours drinking beer and coffee telling stories before they played.

Son, no matter how far you travel, or how smart you get, always remember this: Someday, somewhere, a guy is going to come to you and show you a deck of cards on which the seal is never broken, and this guy is going to offer to bet you that the jack of spades will jump out of this deck and squirt cider in your ear. But, son, do not bet him, for as sure as you do you are going to get an ear full of cider.

Thats not fair, I was trying to get to the end of the post and post the same thing.

Scotty has never said, "I can,__________", you pick the subject. A good scuff doesn't do it like that. He might say, "I might be able to,___________", again, you pick the subject.

If a discussion or argument incurs he will push the subject. If not he might try another, “Or I might even be able to,_______________”. Knowing all the time he can do what ever he says. The good scuff makes you think he is not sure if he can do the feat. Obviously, if he can do a shot in 5 attempts he will ask for 30 and negotiate down.

Sonny Springer was the master of getting out with the money while the guys were still scratching their heads. Never a clue who just snapped them off. Scotty wants you to know who he is. When he says, "I probably can,_______________", yes, believe it.

Having been around Scotty abit myself, if he said he thought he could jump over the Moon, I ain't bettin!!!!

I think that is one of the most, if not the most, despicable things a player can do. Anyone who resort to that kind of tactic is, IMO, a sorry excuse for a human being.

I agree. They got me almost the same way back in 85. It ended up costing em pretty good in the long run though.

You know what would be funny, is if they tried that on someone who is a bigtime druggie, and actually uses the stuff they drugged him with on a regular basis. The person who slipped the drug in the guy's drink would be waiting for the guy to start feeling dizzy or sick, and instead the guy would be like "damn I feel great!" and starts running a bunch or racks LOL
