Screw-on tips?

What's the issue with those? Aside from being used on cheap cues, what are their flaws/drawbacks?

If you have to ask, then it shouldn't matter to you.

This sums up the entire thread.

However, to answer your question; Screw on tips are garbage. They are only on cheap end cues. When I say cheap, I mean $10 USD. If you are buying a cue over $10 USD with a screw on tip, you are wasting the extra cash for nothing. Buy a Szamboti and put a screw on tip on it and you immediately ruined and otherwise great cue.

$20 Viper cues from a sporting goods store at least have a leather glued on tip.

This reminds me of when I was on an aquarium form and a guy was asking where he could get a whale to put in his aquarium in his bedroom.

Let me answer this with these comments:

Most of us agree that it's hard to beat the feel of the hit of a good 1-piece cue. The solidity of the jointless cue is what gives them the desired feel.

On the other hand...most of us would agree that the 4 or 5-piece jointed cues, and the feel of the hit they offer, are not what we desire as pool players.

That said...as most of us play with jointed cues, adding a screw-on tip into the mix is bringing that cue just one step closer to that which we do not desire in a cue by adding yet another joint.

Regardless of how tight we screw our cues together...either at the joint(s) or at the screw-on tip, there can never be the solidity of a 1-piece cue or a glued-on tip.

IMO, I feel that the more joints a cue has, the less feel will be transmitted to the grip hand, thus causing less "feedback" that is so important to so many players. Not that this has any effect on making balls, but this IS important to many.

This is why I feel the screw-on tips are not held in high esteem in the world of serious pool players.

Oooops....I failed to realize who the OP was before answering the question.

I must have gotten up too early also!!!!

I'll buy any cue's with screw on tips for $10.00

I know what this thread needs...

Screw on tips were made for Ram breaks

But seriously, if you have one installed make sure you get a joint protecter for it.

A small whale...

Actually I think Push n Pool is actually just oblivious to the world of quality equipment and play and is not just posting things to get silly replies. Anything he asks is a real question in his mind, although along with the rest of the forum I'm confused as to why the accepted correct ideas about pool (deliberate shots are better than hitting things randomly, what a "good" cue is vs a crappy one, etc...) have not quite filtered into his knowledge.

Maybe the issue is that they are just too bad ass for most ppl. This 1 is in the mail as we speak. Lights up when u hit with it too, how bad ass is that? Strike fear into opponents.
