Scruggs v. Southwest -Opinions Wanted

Scruggs

Without a doubt the Scruggs.....IMO of course. Have owned several of both and always felt that something was missing with my southwest cues
in the way of feel. No doubt you will have a split debate on this because of the many people who have there favorite between the two makers.

Thanks............Paul

Tx for the quick reply--moved the question to the main forum since I'm not selling (just thinking about buying:-)

It depends on how good you play. IMO a Southwest is a higher level players cue based on how hard they hit. The better player can move the cueball better with a harder hit than a softer hit. Tim does Nice work but no real consitancy in hit IMO. 1 Ron Haley beauty wise. Play wise SW, Bluegrass, Sugartree, Zieler by far IMO the best hitting cues.
Now guys, I am not saying Tim's cues are not wonderful and also play good. I am just talking about a unique crisp hit that I have found out of 1,000's of cues the 4 above I named are the most consistant IMO...

i believe the southwest is the best cue of its type ,the scruggs is the best of the traditional cues,i do not believe scruggs has even made thousands of cues the talk i read sounds like opinion and iwould not pay the least bit of attention to them, for a guy who owned thousands of these cues he must be buying a new one every day???

Two cues couldn't be more opposite.
Scruggs have skinny butts.
SW's are fat and stiff.
The one that you shoot better with is the better cue.

Agreed...I am equally horrible, using either one.

I do have a preference, though.....and I prefer a nice Scruggs with a highly figured BEM forearm and sleeve, with a stainless joint, linen wrap, and nice red dot ringwork.

Are ya feelin' me??!! :) :) :)

How ya doin', boss? Hope all's well with you and the family. Have a great holiday season. I'll catch up with ya in February.

The family is doing great. Is your family big as mine yet? Hope to hear from you in February. Happy Holidays to you and your growing family.

SouthWest

but if you want more consistency and the same lineage (as I have run into a few dead SW, even a JF era---which surprised the sh&t out of me), Ed Young puts out a JAM UP cue.

But yet it is all preference...what you like.

My father-in-law in his heyday knew a hustler that would pick up a broomhandle and run racks; and I mean literally "a broomstick".
