I just had a Schon wrapped with white linen
WHats the best product to seal that wrap with???
I read somewhere that DPK sprayed a light coat of clear urethane over the wrap...
Any ideas?
THANKS

A light coat of epoxy to seal it and then what ever type of clear coat the cuemaker uses works fine on top of that.

Hi,

I hate white linen wraps as a cue maker. As an observer of cues I like them even better when they get dirty!

Chis is describing what I have observed over and over with white wraps. They cover them up under a finish. That's ok but it is like a dog chasing it's tail. You put on a linen wrap for how they feel and play.

This reminds me of the 1960s when gramma would buy furniture and they have plastic covers made for them so they don't get dirty. Only trouble with that is that when you sit on the plastic your ass gets sweaty!:banghead:

If I were you I would just burnish it and play with it. When it gets dirty you can admire the patina!:happydance: At least is will feel like a linen wrap.

I have used Scotch Guard in the past with good results. I use 3 coats letting each one dry completely before you apply the next.

Rick...I'm with you on this one. I also had a Grandma who bought nice new couches and chairs and thought plastics on the furniture is a good idea. The first cue I had was a Meucci Originals European plain jane and I liked it early on or at least until I tried a friends custom with an exposed linen wrap. Ever since then I can't picture heading back in that direction again.

Scotch guard sounds like a better idea than putting a finish on it. Never did that, does it affect how the linen feels in your hand?

If you want a white handle on a cue you can always get the handle replaced with a nice holly dowel and get finish over that. Another thing I saw recently that might hold up well too if you like leather is a white leather wrap. There's a guy on here that goes by jazznpool that carries them in his online store www.superiorcues.com . I think that might be easier to keep clean.

There is always the option of getting it cleaned and pressed when it gets bad or wrapped again with some fresh stuff later on.

Guys,
THANK YOU!
I dont want to coat it, just seal or protect the wrap is all"
I like the idea of scotch-guard
Im going to give it a try

White leather gets dirty almost as fast. I've installed one, and that will be the only one I ever do. It looks terrible after a few months of use.

Jesus not more hospital clean cue mumbo jumbo.......

I'm actually right with you on that....I like the patina that the white wraps get....just like an old shaft thats got that blueing on it.....you can tell its a player!

White shafts?....perfectly clean wraps? WTF are we playing pool in a hyperbaric chamber with the bubble boy!

Not one of the cues that I actually PLAY with has a white shaft much less a clean brand new looking wrap....and you know what those cues are not any worse off.

Tell you one thing if anything those cues are BETTER OFF that way! At least you would know that no one has been scotch briteing the shaft or something similarly stupid....you dam sure know some one liked it enough to use the living hell out of it which is usually a good thing IMOP.

likes his stuff broken in,
