I really do hate being the only one to give a negative review of this cue as overall, it is a very well executed example especially for your only 2nd effort. Hopefully the finish that you apply will compliment the rest of the cue which I'm sure it will from looking at the attention to detail that you've shown so far.

My only criticism for this cue is the points. There are 2 ways of constructing veneered points to a cue: overlapped and mitered. As can easily be seen, you chose the former. A while back there was a discussion on the "Ask the cuemaker" forum about the benefits and drawbacks for the two different disciplines. Some feel the overlap method is best as they feel it is stronger and usually, comes out good with no surprises after the cue is turned to size and there are other cuemakers, which I am one of, whom feel that most veneers should be mitered. Mike Webb stated that he does them both ways, depending on the cue. I feel that this cue is a prime example of when the stack method just doesn't work. Apparently you used black paper between veneers or else you used a very dark glue which really stands out at the tips of each veneer.

In the future, if I was you, I feel you will get much better results if you either don't use black paper between veneers, or if it's the glue then use a glue that doesn't show a glue line or miter the veneers. Just my opinion for what it's worth.
