selecting a new cue

Ok people i fear for the replies i'm going to get but here i go. I found a cue that i really like the look of. It is an Adams (made in China) model AA4 Southwest style. Be kind with your responses I'm an old guy with a suspect heart (no joke) and small budget.Just some backround. I was a pretty good player in New Jersey before 1991 when i moved west. Anybody around Central Jersey probably knew me.I owned a few cues thru the years.
Viking = too long ago to comment
Palmer = great cue paid $65.00 in 1979 sold for same following year ,who knew then that it would be worth what they bring today
Mali = not impressed
Schon = 59 inch 2 shafts with ivory fuele paid $425.00 (1985 or so) dumbest move ever to sell it.It was ebony with red points not cnc. Real splice.
Meucci = Warped - fuele cracked played great just fell apart- junk
Cuetec = Nice hit good balance but crap shaft stickey all the time.Still play with it.

maybe i wasn't clear enough. I didn't buy it yet just looking for opinions or if anybody has seen this series in person.

I havent seen this cue personally. I have seen a few of there newer cues though. I know that the older ones was good cues. I cant speak about the newer production ones though. If you do purchase write a review and let us know how you like it.

Hey Measureman,
AZ member milos1973 has a cue butt only you might be interested in. You would have to get a pechauer shaft. It is a Pechauer old school design. The model # is ps-16. The cue is pro series from 2007. Here is link to pic of cue. http://www.pechauer.com/series.php?series_id=2 I think he wants 250.00 for the butt.

Ok After a lot of research and deciding not to buy an imported cue i have narrowed it down to a Joss or a Mcdermott. The only thing that bothers me about the Joss is the "uniloc joint" plus the fact that the McD has a wood flat joint and i really liked that feel on the Meucci that i once had.
Any comments ?

Thanks

I like the wood flat faced joint myself. I use the radial joint pin and flat faced joint in my cues that I build. That would be my choice. I really dont care for the uni lok joint. JMO

Patrick,
After seeing your cues and knowing the skill thats involved to make them i will take your opinion very serously. Also i have not forgot how nice your cues are and if i call you it's because i have won the lottery. thanks

Measureman,

Joss cues hit nice although I think you would be happy with either choice you have narrowed to. I have had a few Joss cues and they hit real well IMO. I saw that you had sold an older Schon and regretted it. I think you could get a pretty nice Schon for $350 in this market right now. Good luck finding the right cue. I believe it is smart to do the research you are doing rather than making a snap decision

Also,

I thought Joss cues were 5/16x14 piloted joint?

Hello everyone.
I have been playing pool for almost 50 years (ok i'm an old guy LOL)
I have had many cues but now i need a new one and i'm stuck at around $350.00 thats it. I have narrowed it down to a Buska replica or a Joss JSM-70. I was able to hit a Joss at a local dealer and it felt just fine. I have yet to find a Buska replica to hit. These 2 cues have the eye appeal for me.But i don't know about the quality of them.
Any opinions or real world experiance with either one would be welcome.
Thanks

Hi, if you're looking for a production cue, you would like to consider a Mezz cue. IMO it's one of the best production cue.:)

You dont have to win the lottery to buy a cue from me. I got into building cue's so the player could afford a nice custom cue. Let me know if you need anything.

Thanks!

Patrick,
Winning the lottery was more of a comment on my lack of money to buy a custom cue rather then to suggest that you were over priced.I am a senior living on a very modest income.
In fact my original budget of $350 now seems out. The 2 cues i have selected are under $230.00.

Doug Patrick:
I visted your site again and i must tell you your cues are great looking (the butterfly is awesome).Having lived in N.J for many years i got to see a lot of cues from Paradise,Palmer,Balabushka and a lot of Szamboti's.In fact the owner of the poolroom in Toms River where i played was a friend of and collector of Gus's cues. He had quite a few.I knew Gus because he would come to the room a couple times a month to shoot pool and hang out. The rule was that he was not there to talk cues and don't ask questions. But from time to time he would talk about cues. He never gave up a secret about how he did things but one time he did say(as best as i remember)"That Balabuska taught him a lot about cue making but not everything and there were a few things he had to figure out for himself"
So i don't know a lot about cue making but i have seen enough great cues to bet if you keep on making great looking cues maybe some day you will be a legend.

Cue pricing

I recommend the Joss for sure. Also a McDermott is good hitting cue for the money. There are a lot of good cues in the for sale forum worth a look!

I'm leaning towards the McD because the uni lock on the Joss worries me.
Will it hold up in the long run ? Not sure.

I knew what you meant there. I was just having a little fun there.

Thank you for the compliments. I do my best to build the best playing cue that I can for the affordable price!!
