Oh my gosh! I just read that someone submitted my name...LOL! Thanks for the vote of confidence...but I am not that anxious to get my fragile ego bruised....LOL.

I don't know Rude Dog...so my vote would have to be for Jimmy since I know that he is a stand-up guy and a heck of a player!

Melissa

Melissa, are you in for the $25? Come on gal, you might be next. ;)

Absolutely! Like I posted in an earlier thread, I think this is a very cool thing to do...and it restores my faith in pool humanity! Sometimes it is hard to wade through all the BS and hustling that goes on in the pool room and get to the actual human beings that reside behind the "pool player" masks.

I think Mike (AZBilliards) should be the one to set up some kind of fund...and then everyone can send their donations to him. He would collect it all and then forward it to the chosen person.

Let me know where and when!

Melissa

My vote goes for Jimmy M. as well. I've known him for about 15 years and I've seen his game sky rocket to where it is now. He owes me all of the credit for it though for beating his brains in for so long for table time at Hard Times. LOL! I'll get my chance someday, I'm sure of it. If not, that's okay too. Good luck Jimmy, you deserve it.

I'm new around here, but think this is a great idea and am all for it. From lurking around, I would vote for either Rude Dog or Jimmy M. both seem like stand up guys that would represent this contingent well.

Personally, I'm not ready for that level of competition, but am all for pitching in 25 bones to send someone who is...

Thanks jaz, I appreciate that and I'm sure Jimmy does too. This site is so cool for even considering doing something like this.

If this thing is a go you can count on my $25. Great idea and I would also support the WPBA idea from Mike as well.

I have often thought that! ;) Hey, those were kind words, and a very nice gesture, but if this happens, the people sending the player are going to choose who that player is. You might not have a choice! :D We might both be on here rooting for Keith, satman or someone else here during the US Open.

By the way, I left you a voicemail (in case you happen to get online before you notice that you have voicemail).

I think the last time we played each other was in that tournament at Hard Times and you skunked me, 9-0! Ha, that won't happen again! Maybe 9-1, but not 9-0! You played so damn good that match, stayed in line every shot, played jam up safeties even when it was 6 or 7 to nuttin, and you didn't dog one ball the whole match. And the crowd went nuts after the match was over, I wasn't used to that at all. They were usually behind me when I played but not that day. Hmmmmm, I just realized it's your fault that I can't play anymore, you shot me into a coma! LOL!

I'm in for $25. That makes 42 people or $1050 in the pot so far. Even if this is all we come up with, I think it covers most of the expenses. Maybe it's time to vote on a player.

I voted the nutz.. thinking I was being funny but I'd chip in too.. Even though I do not know anyone on the board. I would sure appreciate it if the tables were turned! What goes around, comes around. Let the votin' begin

Pig: If the only criteria for entering the open is to pay $500, that's pretty sad. I thought it was more like the world's, where countries try to send deserving players. So the US Open is a tournament that any bum can enter? Kinda takes away from the luster, doesn't it?

I'm not Pigi, but I'll throw in on this one.

It's true that any "bum" can enter (and a few have) but reality is that this event rarely fills up so the extra donations are welcome to keep the prize fund respectable. Also, while you do have a few "bums" every year, they usually go two N out, so other than watching a less exciting match in the early rounds, it's a non-event. By the flip side, if this "bum" comes from nowhere and beats some good players, well, then you've got some action! A few years ago, a local somewhat unknown guy here finished fifth at the Open (Al Lapena).

My point is that most "bums" prolly won't pony up the $500 to go two N out. Some will, just to say they played the Open, which is fine with me. For the most part, the cream does rise to the top and if you watch the matches on Fri, Sat and Sunday, it's usually the Clash of the Titans.

Just My Opinion

"The balls roll funny for everybody..." Eddie Felson

Anybody at anytime can be beat. Just remember, when you're not practicing, someone else is, who is just as hungry if not hungrier than you. Speaking of "nobody's", I still think it would be cool to send someone who wants to go but maybe can't afford to under normal circumstances. What have we proven to each other if we send someone who was probably already going? Nothing, that's what. But maybe we can fulfill someone's lifelong dream of going. By the grace of God I'm going, only to fulfill a lifelong dream. Yes, I could be one of the "two and out bums", but then again, you never know till you try. Even the sun shines on a dog's ass every now and then. ;0)

I am in no matter who goes.

Here Here

If this thing is going to take wings then we need to get going.
Its might be easier to get more dough if its really happening.
Is Mike willing to be the middle guy for the money? Will he provide the
player with shirts or a patch or something?
I think we need an account to go ahead an start donating. That way if more is needed we will know it and maybe pony up some more or others will
chip in.
I think the dates are sept 6th -12th. Is this right??
I am in no matter who goes as well.

I think enough people are willing, now its time to figure out who and how! I am all for sending Jimmy or Rude Dog. Lets get it done!

If we have decided that this is a go, then we need to pick a player. It looks like it between Rude Dog and Jimmy. Or is Keith also in the running?

Thanks for the kind thought, guys. I really do appreciate being considered. I think I'd vote for Rude Dog or Jimmy M. or any other worthy player. It's a great idea.

I want to support the cause. So count me in for the 25 beans. I just hope I don't draw them, as I may live to regret it! ;)

I'm a lucky guy, I guess, because I've got me a good sponsor!

Lets do it folks

What do you need Mike? I will help. First we need to ask Rude Dog if he can find the time. If he can go. Maybe everybody send $ gets a vote. You need someone to handle the cash, I work at the bank and have a good reputation with AZ members. Just ask em. You got a nice AZ shirt or do we have to have one made up. Hell, T shirts would probably sell to the members!!!!! Do it all non-profit, no taxes or hassle.
Don P.

Hey Rude Dog, get permission. Maybe!!!! :D

Hi All,

Lately I haven't much time to check the boards so please email me if this is a go. My $25 is in. My vote is for Jimmy Mendoza. Nice guy and to be able to take out Rodolfo Luat in a tournament is no small feat. Go get em'

Thanks,
Dave
