Seriously considering moving to Waco, TX

Our mechanics in Texas are not "CHEAP"...how dare you!! You will need to change your attitude if you relocate to Texas.

Cheap prices are not the makings of great table mechanics, I've been in most of the pool rooms in TX....so what pool rooms do those guys do, because I didn't see that level of craftsmanship in any of the rooms I've been through:D

Paying Texas table mechanics more don't mean their work gets better...that don't work ANY where....LMAO which is why pool room owner's get labeled as being to cheap to fix their pool tables up when they need fixing! When they can't get excellent work for the price they're already paying, why would they believe the same table mechanics would do better work if they were paid more? AND here's a thought, how did their tables get in their current run down condition if not for the mechanics who've already been working on them? Change is lead by example, and it only takes 1 pool table....in 1 pool room, to set that example of change. That leads to 2 tables, then 3, then the whole pool room, which then creates a snowball effect in other pool rooms not wanting to be left out, or fall behind their competition;)

Do you honestly think you are the only one who does better than average work?

I hope RKC comes to Texas, just because one more first rate mechanic never hurt a region at all.

His arrival might take business away from some Craigslist wannabees who claim much but deliver little - IF people on Craigslist are paying attention, and if RKC tries to get that business.

With Glen's backlog and commitment to Diamond, I doubt his move will make any huge difference in the central Texas mechanic market at all. Maybe an extra handful of individuals in this area will get him to work on their table, people who otherwise might not be able to get him because his schedule keeps him four states away for months at a time.

Maybe a few rooms will be lucky enough and smart enough to go for the RKC treatment, instead of hiring whoever has the lowest price, but again that is iffy at best, knowing how carefully room owners try to avoid any extra expense.

I think RKC will be as busy as he wants to be, as usual, but with a bit more pleasant weather much of the year.

However, I suggest avoiding any city on a line from Abilene to Wichita Falls, or further north - the only thing between there and the freezing winds of the Canadian arctic is a four-wire fence, with three wires down.

p.s. I would repeat my suggestion to rent someplace for a short term rather than make a quick long term lease or purchase. It is unbelievable how many great property bargains there are here in central and north Texas. But, it is not always quick and easy to find those bargains - it takes some time and effort, some networking, and even just some driving around to find them. I would guess that within three months RKC could find a property at 2/3 the price he first mentioned, and with half again the amenities.

Tax breaks or other subsidies can come from the local city, county or Chamber of Commerce. The nearby junior college could offer a paid teaching position two nights a week for one or two of the short semesters, or even develop a beginner's table-maintenance all-video course through that same JC. Anything that promotes jobs or skills training is much sought after around here.

At 58 I'm not really looking for a commitment to live somewhere by buying the location, I'd rather invest in a motorhome that I can at times relocate at my leasure to another area I'd be interested in living/working in for another year or so, but I'm not really sure how long I intend on staying in TX, might be the rest of my life, maybe only a few years, I don't know. One thing I do know however, is that when I'm not working on delivering Diamond tables, I will be working on pool tables somewhere in the TX region I outlined. I don't for the most part, recover pool tables, I fix and rebuild them to new or better than new. I teach other table mechanic's how to maintain them on a regular basis, as I'm not interested in doing so.

TX needs ya

Come on down RKC, remember that table you setup for MikeyFrost? It's now in a poolhall that is in dire need of getting setup correctly.

You will have lots of work like what Brent said for a long time when you move here :)

I am looking for a diamond for the house! lemme know when you come!

RKC, I agree with Danny and Joe. Tons of tables for you to do in Tex. I was just rattling your cage earlier because your fun.

You'd have a ton of work if you can get the bars and rooms to spend the money.

You guys will be getting a great guy to help with he pool scene in the lone star state. Glen not only amazing with tables but he is fun to talk pool with and a heck of a shot also. Good luck with where ever you decide to lite Glen, I take very good care of my table because I know I will never find another person as good as you to recover my DIamond like you did.

Keeping it light and adding no substance at all... literally and figuratively....

George W Bush will be your neighbor.

Good Luck,
Dave

Glen, what's the update on your potential move to Waco?

Still out here on the west coast right now, Sacramento area, finishing up a couple of jobs. Waiting on my son's wrongful death lawsuit to have a court date set, which is coming up very soon.

Good luck with it

Good luck with the case and the move Glen. I sent you a text offering some assistance with the suit. When you move, I can also lend a hand if you need one.
