after buying some cues from a maker is it expected to have basic service ( like tips) done by the maker in a reasonable time ?

just wondering cause I now have a couple of high end cues that the maker tells me....................call me back in a year to check if he will have the time

I wouldn't think so.

And instead of being bothered by a response like that, I' d be glad for the honesty.

im not a cuemaker and you might want to pose your question in that section
but as a cue user if i spent over 1k for a custom cue i would expect the maker to "service" it
i also would think the cuemaker would prefer he work on his own cues rather than someone else
jmho

I believe that if the maker is not close to you, then it is unrealistic for the maker to expect for you to send out your cues for simple things like tip replacement, shaft cleaning and conditioning, etc. Seek out a repairman and/or maker close to you and check out their work. Check with others who may have had work done by them. If they're qualified, then your cues should be in safe hands.

Does beg the question....what maker doesn't have time to do a tip? Not like it takes a long time, or is laborious.

I try to squeeze in work on "my" cues even ahead of others.
The only people I ask to call back in a year, are customers I don't want to see again, under any circumstances...

That is a very odd answer. Usually the most money per hour the cue maker makes are simple repairs like tips, ferrules, rewraps and so on. That is real gravy. Are you sure you understood him right, Maybe he thought you wanted a shaft. Very few cue makers if any won't make the time to do a fast cash in pocket repair. It can be done while something is drying or a machine is doing some work and you are waiting. Every cue maker loves simple repairs.

I have had 3 extra shafts made for each of the cues and it didn't take a year

even when I have shafts made I do without the butt for some time

so that makes 2 of his cues with 4 shafts each

I even have one of his dads cues that needs shafts but now im wondering where to find a couple

thats what many people do when they have tons of business. they dont care about their bread and butter repeat customers. and if things change it should bite them in the butt.
serving other than their cues i understand, but after buying a high priced cue it doesnt take any real time to fix it for a customer..

I doubt ill buy another barry szamboti cue

If I had a berry szamboti made I would not want anyone but szamboti to do repair work to the cue, now that I learn he won't do repair work to his products or respect his customers I wouldn't buy, purchase or order anything from him or his afilates..
I know szamboti cues are held high in the pool world but now I wouldn't even use em as a tire beater.
I only deal with honest people.

Hold up now- Barry is dishonest because he told you the truth?

Did he say he would always be available and then recant?

Even if so, unless the change happened in a very short time, I would take his refusal to take the work as honesty, he could have told you to ship it and then sat on it until he 'squeezed it into' his schedule.

Disappointing, yes. Dishonest, no.

Vote with you wallet, absolutely. 100% within your rights, but to call him a liar? A 'Tad' extreme, IMO, especially given his reputation and position.

On a related note. What is the proper protocol for locating a very reliable party to re tip my Schon/Predator 314/2?

I'd also want a total shaft cleaning, sealing, making the tip, ferrule, and shaft perfectly flush, smooth, etc.

Do we have a rating system in place on the forum so I can get some feedback by other AZ members whose work was properly and professionally done by a certain individual?

I really appreciate your suggestions.

I guess I'll also post this in the classified section, or the cue maker section.

Feel free to PM me if you've dealt with anyone who is outstanding, or you yourself can offer this service so my returned shaft rivals "like new" condition, and is done in a timely manner....:help:

Don't want to hijack the thread. Mods move if this isn't in the correct area.

Thanks a million!!!

I have no idea who you are talking about, But a tip is super fast and easy to do, ( five minutes or so for me) so it sounds like this person is kind of an idiot. even if he is only willing to do tips on his own cues, it would be a light load in a years time.... So take care of those who are taking care of you! Sounds to me like its time to find a cue maker who's not an arrogant s.o.b.

honesty has never been an issue

owning the cues I expected him to do the repair work on his own cues

I build fishing rods and always feel disappointed when I see one of my rods in someone elses shop

im the one taking the chance by sending them away

I found a local builder I trust to do it right and they are home now

btw the local builder does some very nice inlay work too

Bull$hit

My name is Barry Szamboti. I was just told about this and I will tell Bill and anyone else that this is BULLSHIT.

Bill, you asked me to make you SHAFTS for your cues. Not to put tips on existing shafts.

I told you that I have a lot of repair work here already and I need to finish this before I take anymore repair work.

And for telling you that I wont be done this before the end of the summer, you come on here and tell people that I just said NO to you. I have made time for you and I have always tried to be fair with everyone. I am a one man shop. I have repair work and new cues that I am working on. I am not telling you anything different than I am telling anyone else at this time.

I'm sorry that you took this approach and went out of your way to embarrass me in public. I have spent my life trying to honor the name that my Dad worked hard to be proud of.

I wish I could make more cues and complete more repair work for people all of the time. Coming on here and addressing what you wrote is not what I wanted to accomplish today.

Thanks Bill

Barry is one of the most honest and nicest people I have ever met. It is sad to see someone posting this B.S.
