Setting A High Run Goal

Played a quick game tonight I had to go to 50 I won running 16 and out 13/3 on the last run. I have been playing more 9b on a bar box have some new video equipment coming should be pretty cool.

Do you have access to a snooker table? If so, try practicing some snooker (with a snooker cue). You'll find there are a lot of transferable concepts between the games and it will straighten out your stroke even more.

I would KILL (not really) for access to a snooker table, even if just to practice potting balls on. But I would also love to try my hand at playing snooker.

But according to findsnooker.com, the nearest snooker table to where I live is about a 2 hour drive. :(

I know how you feel, I'm in the same situation for Carom Billiards (closest table 2.5 hrs).

If you ever get a chance, it will do wonders for your game if you take a serious approach to it. Within a year of practicing snooker my pool game tightened up considerably.

Ran 29 earlier cannot do anything with that 3rd rack usually cannot get it going I am going back downstairs.

Played some last week in EL Paso with Blackjack. He had a lot to say about using the bottom half of the table. Between that and the stop shot and snip shot and a couple of drills and break concept I have a lot to be working on which should tighten up my game.

I am still about where I was a year ago as far as high run. I have ran 37. I really do not play 14.1 much right now. I play pool to relax, if I want to get better I am going to have to put out some more work to get to the next level. I play in local tournaments as a C+ player, and there are quite a few players around here who play at that level. It sucks to be a banger and I realized last night that I have been playing as a banger for a long time I need to quit fooling myself about the current level of my game.

As long as you enjoy yourself, have at it. When it isn't fun, then give it up. I am a 100% banger, but love the game and won't quit. I am hoping my 6 year old continues to enjoy the game so we can play together.

Elvicash, I just read this entire thread, filled with tons of advise, thanks for the years of posting and for bringing it back up for the newbies (me) who would never have found it!

I was sure when I got to the end that you would have reached your goal, but sometimes things dont happen when we want them to. (especially when you have a career and family!)
Still, the setting of your goal and your efforts to reach it was VERY motivating!

I am in the process of setting my own pool goal for 2012, not sure if I will reach it, but if I have just half the determination you have, I wont complain either way. Its all about the journey. :)

I have not been on this thread for a long time. The main reason is I quit my straight pool league and do not play much 14.1 anymore. I have worked on quite a few fundamentals and also some mental roadblocks so I need to get to the table and play more as life allows. I be playing a lot more 14.1 with video. I will shoot my age this before my next birthday 6/24/2013 currently, I am 46 years old it is only a little more than 3 racks. I get in the 20's alot and have ran 37 3 times.

What have I been doing, I have been on the road for work for the last 4 months or so in Ft. Wayne IN the only big table I know of in town is a 9ft Valley most all tables there are 7' Valleys not a good 14.1 town. But i am home right now just woke up and feel like playing some straight pool. I have a Gold Crown 9' with perhaps the best light in the country, a great set of Sup Pro balls, a Ball Star and plenty of chalk. I got no excuses, now I got to get to it.

PS - DMG work on your score/video because I will post a number this year.

Thumbs Up

Good to hear that you are back to playing 14.1
You have one of the best tables there are out in the "Pool World" and a Ball Star cleaning machine to go along with it. Maybe Santa will bring me one this Christmas. I think that I have been good this year.....
Play for that goal & enjoy yourself. Good Luck. Keep us posted.

I got the equipment the time has been in short supply. I think i have some work coming where i will mostly be in the indy area if so we will be playing and hopefully upping the high run.

You ran an awfully smooth 31 on a Diamond table against me when we hooked up briefly last summer, surely you can go a lot further than that. I'm a believer, sir.

Thanks Stu I enjoyed that run and I appreciate your kind words.

It has been almost a year since I posted anything in this thread. I just have not played much 14.1 in the last couple of years. I have worked on somethings with my game improved fundamentals, played some league pool did OK at state but really not played much 14.1. A lot of the the less 14.1 is because I quit the 14.1 league mostly due to work related travel. But straight pool has been on my mind and I still intend to run my age and more than my age one of these days. I been practicing 14.1 in the last couple of weeks mostly at home. I ran 22 on Saturday and have had a few 14's or more here and there and playing is feeling good.

So I look forward to playing 14.1 if only in practice at home and seeing if other work on my game will now show some fruit. Anyone in the Indy area interested in some matches let me know I am ready to play.

I turned 47 in June this year.

Keep at it, Dana. Ed Latimer just today, out of the blue asked if we still had our yearly bet going. He said he thought you should have a higher run with how well you shoot and was surprised that you hadn't hit your age yet. He said you must not be playing very much.

Even though this is an older thread I hadn't seen it before now. Interesting though because I love 14.1 and played a lot in college, but since I've been playing regularly for the last year and a half straight pool really hasn't been part of it. Now I'm practicing 14.1 for at least part of the time at the pool room and even ran a 22 the other day which is good for me. I notice it starting to have a positive influence on the rest of my game particularly my cue ball control. I'd like to run my age as well since running 29 would be a new personal best for me. The only sad part is I only have a few months before the goal line gets moved to 30 :)

You know Ed loves to teach. He keeps trying to get me to stroke it instead of poking it. He was working with Rich93 a little. He would be happy to see you.

You called it on the nose. I eked out a 50 a few weeks ago.

There is a target for you. Go get it. :)

Well I finally ran my age+ today. I ran a 49 no video, I thought I was just going to hit a few balls. Setup a break shot and just kept on going. Eventually I scratched on a combo in the rack area fixing my last clusters I was trying to draw up table to the end rail and did not quite snap it enough to go straight up table. Yet again trying to stroke rather than think but i am learning.

I got a new tip this week and my cue felt good. I will be turning on the camera now on so Dennis you still have the lead I have nothing over 20 something on video but i feel good that I finally got through the third rack into the 4th rack my break shot was pretty thin.
